Anyone taken a module outside their course and preferred it?
When you get the chance to take some unrestricted modules at uni, has anyone picked something outside their department and actually preferred it?

I picked a religion module this semester, but I'm studying politics. It was much more interesting, and I got 70 in that module, compared to 50 in the others. I'm so gutted I'll never get to study it again

I'm a history major and in the first year at Lancaster you have to pick two 'minor' subjects. There's no difference in the teaching between the major and minor subjects the only variation is that you need 45% rather than 40% in your major subject to progress. At any time during the first year you could change which one of your subjects was the major. I digress, I did politics and philosophy as well as history and really enjoyed them both!

Ah yeah, I applied to transfer into second year to do religion at Lancaster, because I know of their system and thought I would have more chance there. They gave me an offer but I decided I like my uni. I think Lancaster have a really good system in play there, I wish I had known about it before I started uni as I would have probably have gone there in the first place!

I was doing Physics a few years ago, took some maths modules and absolutely loved them. Unfortunately I had to drop out because of medical problems, but I'm going back to university in September to study maths full time, all because of those modules

I enjoyed my archaeology modules so much I decided I wanna do a joint degree instead, even though the arch. exams are harder. Lucky for me the 2 courses go well together.

I do International Relations and I took a History module in first semester of first year which I really enjoyed (more so than my other first semester modules) but I did better in most of my core modules and I get the chance to do a History module in second year.

The opposite for me. I took a politics module and while it was interesting, it really just reinforced that I like my degree!

I wish we could do that on my course. We only get core modules and a small selection of options, and they are reducing them next year (the optional module in the second year is now gone and we only get one option in the final year).

When I did A Levels though I did Sciences, but in the second year dropped Maths and picked up English Literature instead and I really enjoyed that. Still did Science at Uni though.
