    A few amazing solo artists:

    Julianna Barwick

    Perfume Genius

    Dirty Beaches

    Also:

Broken Bells (James Mercer of The Shins and uber-producer Danger Mouse, they really should be better known)

    Cat's Eyes

and God knows they've been around forever and should be the biggest band going, Spiritualized

I've noticed that a lot of the people on this forum have terribly predictable tastes in music. Now don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great, amazing mainstream bands and I listen to a lot of them. However, this is a thread I've created for people to list musicians/bands which they love that people probably haven't heard of before. I'll start this thread off. Post videos as well if you like.

    - The Dear Hunter

    - Facing New York

    - Copeland

    - Manchester Orchestra

    - Glassjaw

    - Thursday

    - Thrice

    - Brand New

    - Mae

    - Deas Vail

    - Terrible Things

    - Union Sound Set

    - Crime In Stereo

    - The Antlers

    Folk:

    - The Tallest Man On Earth

    - Iron & Wine

This thread is not hipster enough if I know reasonable number of these bands without even listened to the associated genres.

These guys are relatively unknown outside of Finland:
