Computer Science vs. Economics (hopefully at Cambridge)?
Hi all,
I'm applying as an overseas applicant from China for fall 2013. Recently I developed an interest in Computer Science, but I'm worried I may have a greater chance at a more humanities-related course such as Economics, given my IB courses:
HL:
Maths, Econ, English
SL:
Chinese, Biology, History
As you can see, I am severely lacking in the sciences department. People say that HL Maths is enough for CS (my school doesn't offer further maths), but I'm afraid all the other CS applicants would have stronger credentials. Oh and also, I scored a 78 on the practice TSA on Cambridge's website. There are 5 applicants per space for CS, and 7 applicants per space for Economics. What should I do?!
THANK YOU ALL WHO REPLY. -
Re: Computer Science vs. Economics (hopefully at Cambridge)?I think you are the perfect candidate for Economics, especially since you got such a high TSA score. The uni is probably expecting some CS+Maths+(preferably)Further Maths/something related to CS qualifications as a CS applicant. Sorry, but I think your admission chances are pretty much low for CS. Better go for Econ.(Original post by cc2468)

Re: Computer Science vs. Economics (hopefully at Cambridge)? Thanks, you just helped me make up my mind. I have always imagined myself in the Econ field, so I oriented my schedule around economics (history, maths etc.) :P it's probably a bad idea to change now. You're right, all the other CS candidates would have physics/further maths/computing, and my school doesn't offer further maths. I had doubts too, but I needed confirmation.(Original post by Atena369)
