Exeter vs Cardiff vs Birmingham - MSc
Hi All
Hope you are well.
I wanted some advice on three universities - University of Exeter (Business School), Cardiff University - Cardiff Business School And University of Birmingham - Birmingham Business School. I'm hoping to study a MSc beginning in September and then work in the City (Financial Markets - London).
Which out of the three universities would you recommend to do a Masters?
Thanks. -
Re: Exeter vs Cardiff vs Birmingham - MSc
Hi.
I received offers from Cardiff - MSc Finance and Birmingham - MSc Investments. I've been thinking which to accept between these two. From the programme structure I can see that Cardiff has 2 research subjects (Research Methods and Research Topics in Finance) which I think is good to prepare for dissertation while Birm none. I'm not sure if Birm offers the research subjects as part of their electives.
BTW the offer from Birm is for 24months programme, I need to undergo Graduate Diploma of Business Admin for the 1st year, then 2nd year I'll proceed to MSc Investments. I don't know whether this will look good in my CV.
I'm incline to accept the offer from Cardiff. But I'm still waiting for a reply from Warwick. All the best to you. -
Re: Exeter vs Cardiff vs Birmingham - MSc
I went to Cardiff for my MA -- I was in JOMEC, but most of my flatmates were in the Business School and they had really good things to say about it, and one even ended up getting fully funded to do her PhD at Cardiff in Strat Comm. I'm not personally familiar with the Business School -- but let me know if you want answers about anything related to the school in general or the city!

Zenomorph is spot on. I intend not to burst any bubbles here, but to share facts. Presumably, you've been unsuccessful at securing a city job and so are looking to a masters degree to elevate your chances in the future. Unfortunately these days, neither of those names get you an interview let alone a job in the city, unless you are talking about support functions. Try to get into OCLIUW at this level, otherwise given your job objectives, a masters will not be worthwhile in terms of time and money.
