Am i crazy for choosing to do these 4 alevels all for AS as well as A2
I've chosen to do maths chemistry further maths and physics, this year I started maths AS a year early and did complete so, in year12 il do maths a2 chemistry physics further maths AS, then in year13 the 3 left a2, is this going to be too hard? Or should I just replace chemistry with a more straight forward subject as its just 3A2s the unis look at?

That particular combination should be absolutely fine.

Ok thanks, I keep being told that I can't do them

What grades are you getting in them? What course are you planning to do at uni? No point doing more than you need to. Those subjects aren't impossible to do, it just depends how motivated you are and if you work hard or not.

I think its doable, I had the 3 sciences and maths, which is a pretty formidable combination and I ended up getting AABB. This was below what I wanted. In AS I got AAAB so I was slightly disappointed. That being said, I was 1 ums away from A* in maths, I narrowly missed an A* in chemistry again being only a few ums away and narrowly A in biology. I say wait till your results come out, but its certainly doable. That being said, it would have been nice to have one less thing to worry about. Having 4 A-levels won't advantage you in most cases as unis just generally give offers based on 3, however if the offer is based on UCAS points its obviously going to be an advantage as more a-levels means more ucas points.

That's a reasonably common combination, is it not?

Well as i finished AS maths out of the 3 modules i only know the first one was about 87ums and the other 2 which im yet to find out i can safely say i averaged 90+ in both. In terms of courses ive always wanted to do either an engineering degree (preferably aeronautics) or computer science, ive seen some top unis say they would like further maths and well chemistry i realise it wasnt completely necessary but i always thought it was a risk not to do it? as i couldnt see another subject i thought id be as good at

from the people at my school it seems its not common as im the only one who's 'mad' enough to apply for them or maybe its just them? im not sure

You should be fine. That's a great combination of subjects if you want to go onto science at university.

that's a nice combination, you can get into a lot of courses if u get good grades in those subjects

Well if you're considering maths/engineering etc, I would say it's the most sensible combination to do, provided you're good at the subjects of course (but that would be true of any subjects).

I did the same as you except biology instead of chem. I'm going into A2 in September and it's been fine so far.

but isnt doing 4 subjects in year12 then 2 in year13 (finishing maths early) a waste of lessons perhaps??

Just done those subjects to a2, it is a good combination with lots of crossover between them which helps and it will definity help with science or engineering or maths degrees

Most people I know who do further maths do all of regular maths (i.e. AS and A2) in year 12 alongside their other subjects, and then AS and A2 further maths in year 13 alongside their other subjects.

That's also how it's done at my school, and I did exactly the same subjects you have proposed.

Who cares what teachers tell you; if you want to do it, nobody is going to stop you looking at a textbook and learning the material - they cannot stop you.

thank you! the thing is my own older brother did the subjects too and keeps telling me 'you will fail chemistry, don't do it' it really does put me off as me and him are quite evenly intelligent
