but isnt doing 4 subjects in year12 then 2 in year13 (finishing maths early) a waste of lessons perhaps??
No its not, doing 4 AS levels allows you more options, then once you decide what you want to apply for, you drop to 3( by 2 i assume you meant 3) A2s, the system that the vast majority of university applicants conform to.

thank you! the thing is my own older brother did the subjects too and keeps telling me 'you will fail chemistry, don't do it' it really does put me off as me and him are quite evenly intelligent
Chemistry has been the most difficult to do well in I have found. This isn't so much because it's the most difficult content, but rather the exams are far pickier. Lots of specific reactions and reagents to remember and word-for-word definitions to be learned by heart. You don't so much have this problem with maths or physics though. Still, I'd certainly say you should do it, it's interesting and if you're doing physics too it should be quite insightful.

You need to ask yourself: "am I interested enough in chemistry and/or physics to make sure I make an effort to understand what I'm learning about and to actively want to learn more about it?"

When I said 2 I actually meant that, reason being as I said in the original post I've finished AS maths a year early meaning I do A2 in year12 so if I do 2 A2 in year13 I still have done 3A2s

Well its up to you, but with some unis it gets a bit pair shaped when your sitting your a-levels over 3 years, so I would make sure your sitting 3 A2s in year 13

    You don't get it,
Year 11= you doing maths AS
Year 12= you doing maths A2 +3 AS
Year 13 = you doing A2s, since you already finished Maths A2

thats why you'd be sitting it over three years

So its definitely safer to do 3A2 in year13 as I did the same amount of work as most in the two years yes?

Sorry to intrude, but from what I've heard if I do:
    Year 11:
AS Mathematics and History (maybe Business)
    Year 12:
    A2 Mathematics and History
AS Physics, Chemistry, Further Maths, French
Year 13: A2 Physics, Chemistry, Further Maths and French.

Which ones wouldn't count as it's over three years?

I want to do Chemical Engineering at Imperial/Cambridge... If that helps...

You should be fine. The only place I've ever seen anyone say something about there being problems about doing exams spread out is for medicine at UCL (I think it was UCL, but definitely medicine). Cambridge in general certainly don't care, although I'm not familiar with the admissions for Chem Eng. If anything, people would be most iffy about either spreading a single A level over three years, or spreading things out enough that by the summer of year 13 you have little left to do - neither of which apply to you. If you're really worried, ask the admissions tutors for the universities you want.

To the OP: Not crazy at all, many people do similar. At my school it was a common combination (amoung the people doing further maths at least) to end up doing AS + A2 Maths and AS Physics, Chemistry and another subject in year 12, then AS + A2 Further Maths and A2 Physics and another subject in year 13.

They all count as you are still doing 4 A-levels over 2 years which is what they want. The others are jsut seen as extras!

    Yeh! Fine.

Cambridge want them to be done over 2 years to show you can handle with the workloada and you are doing the normal amount in that time!

It will be fine if you are dedicated. I did 5 a levels Chemistry, Maths, Further maths , Biology and Physics. I really enjoyed the combo. I would say that it is hard and at times unbearble when in A2(it is a big jump personally from As)but you should get thro it. I hoping for very good results this summer.Good luck.

Wow very impressive. Doing 4 As and 2 A2 in 1 year is applaudable.
