should i do a placement year?
Im going uni in september and im supposed to be doing a placement year
i dont really know whether i should do one now because obviously it would be moving for a whole year and could mean not knowing anyone, living on my own and basically not being in the city i chose to go uni in..did anyone on here regret doing their placement year?

Placement years happen after completion of the 2nd year and normally you have to get specific grades.
Secondly from what I recall, you need to go out there and get the placement yourself, the uni will only support you and provide the relevant contacts, so it's up to you to which cities interest you and whether anythings on offer.

And also if you decide a year or 2 in you don't want to do it, than they'll happily switch you over. My course goes upto a MEng, but i'm on a BEng, I got until 2nd year to change.

Given the current economic climate delaying entry into the labour market by a year might not be a bad idea, especially if you have no or little work experience. In any case, if you do decide to do a placement make sure you will get the most out of it (choose your placement company wisely and make sure you will be involved in more than coffee making and photocopying). I know people who have had great placements and some for whom the placement has been a complete waste of time.

because in this job market experience is so important, not to mention you may land a permanent job offer from your placement year.
