Re: Negatives about the UK
I'm not fussed about the weather but the UK has loads of people with no perspective on how good we actually have it here and those people are quite annoying. I did hear that we have a reputation as a country of complainers and that we take everything too seriously, and I think thats quite true, it's difficult to be optimistic about anything without depressing people shooting you down! Lighten up, please. I understand when you're all moaning about issues that are actually important, but please stop being so negative about everything else.

Re: Negatives about the UK
I'd say the whole police culture is pretty shocking. I mean CCTV and average speed cameras? Really? I like safety as much as the next guy but the government is going a little bit overboard methinks.
Also, all the political correctness makes everyone take everything so seriously. I mean how many times is some random comment from Jeremy Clarkson going to be front-page news before people learn to laugh about some things in life.
Seriously, all places have good and bad things. Sometimes the bad things are things you don't mind, sometimes they are. -
Re: Negatives about the UK
I live in the UK and I do like it, I feel the reason why some people complain about is because of the following;
- The rain
- Lack of sunshine
- The cold
- Weather in general
- Stupidly high university fees
- Political Correctness
- Lack of proximity to other countries seeing as we are an island
- Fairly high tax rates on products
- Constant pressure to achieve
Following a trip to India last October, I honestly felt as if people there were 'happier' I am probably going to be negged for this but it's true, people regardless of their social / economic status and living standards, seemed generally happier and seemed optimistic, which made me love the country even more (obviously there are some exceptions) Although I have a feeling that this could be due to the high levels of religiosity and family values which are significantly stronger in Indian culture, compared to that of the UK. Most people I see daily on the tube have faces like a slapped bum so to speak (again there are exceptions) Anyway, just something I noticed which I thought I would share

Re: Negatives about the UKUnless you're desperately poor, in which case every developed country would supply you with some sort of safety net, that's simply not true.(Original post by Origami Bullets)
Without the NHS, my entire family would either be dead, severely deformed or the health problems that they have would not be treated and they would be dead within 5 years (the latter applying the the healthiest person my family has!)
I think the problem people have with the welfare state at present is that it positively encourages worklessness, dependency and - as a consequence - "poverty".We have a welfare state so that people don't fall into the sort of abject poverty seen in places like India, people don't have to live in shanty towns with open sewers etc. -

I agree that Indian food probably tastes better than British food but is cold and wet weather really worse than hot and dry.
PS: It doesn't snow in India, ever.
