Social Sciences help!!
Hello ladies and gentlemen
I am studying Politics and International Relations in 2013 at the City Campus at NTU
1. I would appreciate it if somebody could reply with a rough reading list, perhaps their own reading list so I have an estimated guide as to what books to look at, or hire.
2. Could somebody please also send me their lecture schedule for their 1st year, I just want to be aware of how often we’re in for lectures etc.
3. Any useful information they have regarding their experiences on the course; websites to visits, books to read etc.
4. Anything extra, such as information you wish you knew when you started at NTU
Thanks to all those who reply.
Mann.

Re: Social Sciences help!!
1.for IR "An Introduction to International Relations Theory: Perspectives and Themes" will most likely be back on the reading list for the core module.
I also liked "Theories of International Relations: Fourth Edition" by Scott Burchill, Andrew Linklater, Richard Devetak and Jack Donnelly. both are good intro's
2.Lecture schedule will depend entirely on what modules you pick but expect 1-2 lectures and 1 seminar a week per module.
3+4. I know this will sound realy obvious but the two most useful things you can do is a) be aware of things happening in the world. You don't need to be a freakin expert but read a good newspaper fairly regularly. and following on from that b) a basic grasp of modern history, ie post 1945, is fairly essential. you won't be expected to know anything about IR but most lecturers presume yu know what the cold war was. (and yes i have had to explain that to a fellow student)
Two books i found interesting to read were:
One World Divisible: A Global History Since 1945 by David Reynolds
Age of Extremes : The Short Twentieth Century 1914-1991 by E.J. Hobsbawm
