Areeb's Transformation blog
So let's get down to business. My weight which I measured several days ago was about 209lbs, which is 14stones and 13lbs. I'm going to really push myself for the competition because my family are in a poor financial situation at the moment and I really could do with those vouchers.
Thursday is my weigh-in day so I can check how much weight I have lost. So far today I have done 3 hours of walking and an intense 1 hour on the treadmill. Probably going to get in another 1 hour of cardio and about 30 minutes of strength-training.
Hopefully I won't burn out, this programme was very similar to what I was doing before the competition and I lost more than 2 stones in about 8 weeks, which isn't bad.
My motivation is off the scales at the moment and I hope I can keep it up

Re: Areeb's Transformation blog
So today I did workout A of the starting strength routine.
Squats: 35kg
Bench: 35kg
Deadlift: 55kg
Still slightly disappointed with the squats I'd prefer them to be around 45kg, but I guess the running and other leg orientated cardio is taking it's toll. Just found out today that my gym has a punch bag and gloves as well, so I'll be doing some bag work tomorrow along with the cardio. I'm going to do another 30/40 minutes of burpees/jump-squats/stair-sprinting etc today as well.
Remember every second counts! Successful people don't go with the days;they go with the hours

Re: Areeb's Transformation blog
So another 3 hours of walking today. If any of you are interested btw this consists of walking my dog every morning as well as the huge trek to the gym and back. I did about 35-40 minutes on the treadmill and about 15 minutes on a heavy bag. Hopefully will do some more cardio in the evening after a bit of rest. Maybe some HIIT. Feel even more motivated now because my brother (who I train with) says I don't push myself enough. Just because I don't grunt and scream like he does when working out, he thinks I'm not working hard. So I'm definitely going to push myself even more now..
Workout B tomorrow of SS. Cannot wait-I'm addicted to squats I think

Re: Areeb's Transformation blog
if i win ill think about donating the vouchers to you......cos im a good guy like that.... but only if u dont do starting strength.....you'll waste your time and not really see much gains at all.....
p.s.....i kno wat im talking about....
get on a bodybuilding split........if i had your body i could make quite a good transformation on a bodybuilding split mixed with a low carb, medium fat.....high protein diet....
best advice your gna get..... -
Re: Areeb's Transformation blog
I might trial a bb split for the transformation then instead of SS. But I don't know if you can confirm if this is true or not but I was told with a bb split your size does not correlate with your strength, and they're not as strong as they look which is why I picked ss. Is this true? And also carbs and fats shouldn't be a problem, but a high protein diet will be because my family eats a lot of fatty curries etc being asian. Do you have any advice on how to get protein cheaply and easily? And what is your bb split like if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks for the advice

Re: Areeb's Transformation blogfirst things first....ive only ever done a bodybuilding split.....and its really rare for me to come across someone anywhere near my strength levels thats anywhere near my age......if anything people are generally quite shocked how i can bench twice my bodyweight......(Original post by areebmazhar)

Re: Areeb's Transformation blog
Yes get in!! Lost 4.5 pounds since last Thursday, maybe more as normally I weigh myself after a dump and an empty stomach, today I weighed myself without going to the toilet as well as having a meal before I weighed myself (completely forgot about it). Really happy with that, hope I can keep it up. My new weight is 14st 8.5lbs then. Not sure why I am losing it so fast, I am eating healthy about 1300-1500 calories a day. I might have a very high metabolism coupled with the mad cardio I'm doing which is helping me lose this.
In regards to SS I think I might stick to it for a little while catjaum because I am seeing results in strength and mass as well, it's only 3 30ish minute sessions a week which is ideal to fit in all my cardio. With a bb slpit I won't get as much cardio in :/ I've still took your nutrition advice though and thanks for helping me anyway, you sound like a nice guy

Re: Areeb's Transformation blog
Just because I'm incredibly bored I thought I would write down a typical diet of mine before I decided to make a change:
Breakfast: 2 plates of cereal (usually something like coco pops), 2/3 toast, cake and pizza/fish fingers etc from night before and 1 or 2 glasses of coke to wash it all down
Lunch: tray of potato wedges and a muffin and a sugary drink such as oasis (didn't eat too much because I didn't want to look like a fat slob in front of everyone at college)
After college: 3 chocs such as ripple, snickers duo and twix (as it's 3 for a £1 at my local shop
), packet of crisps (McCoys steak) and 2 energy drinks (fish and chips on top of this well if I had the money)
Dinner: Usually a very fatty lentil curry or meat curry of some sort stuffed with oil and grease, usually two plates of this with 3 chappatties, 2 cans of coke, huge plate of choc cake and custard.
10pm 'snack': usually some 2 or 3 cheese toasties, another bowl of cereal, more coke and some sweets. Oh and any left over pudding.
And I've still left out snacks which I constantly grazed on during the day such as if I was browsing youtube/facebook/tsr I could get through a full pack of choc digestive buscuits :/
I actually feel sick writing this tbh, I'll never go back to that lifestyle

Re: Areeb's Transformation blogThanks for the encouragement fallenangel I'll keep updating regularly(Original post by fallenangel)
Hope it goes well for you mate - consistency is the key. I started training 9 months ago, and it was tough in the beginning, but once you get past the first couple months - there's no going back.
I'll keep an eye on your transformation

Re: Areeb's Transformation blogNo worries buddy - I've seen you around the med forums, make sure you get into a set routine before you start. A gap year has really helped, like the way I train now has got to such a point, when I become lazy and miss a session, I feel pretty down. Our routines are going to be messed up (perhaps not so bad in the 1st year) but it's all about reminding yourself why you're doing it, and keeping at it (all the whilst working like a bitch and scraping through med school)(Original post by areebmazhar)

Re: Areeb's Transformation blogAh that's why your username was really familiar, I am slightly worried about messing up myroutine or at least having to sacrifice my cardio when I start med school, but hopefully I'll manage. I feel quite down on my rest days as well and thanksfor the heads up(Original post by fallenangel)

Re: Areeb's Transformation blogThanks a lot for your kind words Danny, it seriously means a lot(Original post by DannyW94)
Best of luck with this. Keep going/motivated and you'll start to love working out eventually (well, I did anyway)
And the diet that you used to eat is INCREDIBLE (but not in a good way of course haha!)
and lol I can't even believe I used to eat that much crap. Really getting a buzz out of the strength training atm it's like a drug to me, the cardio however I'm starting to hate now

Re: Areeb's Transformation blog
Good session at gym today
Squats 35kg (dissapointing tbh)
BP 37kg
DL 60kg
These man and woman were on the only treadmills and they were just walking on them and chatting to each other about eastenders or something. Felt like telling them to hurry but that would have been too rude :/ So I spent 20 minutes on the stationary bike before finally getting my solid 30 mins on the treadmill.
I'm really going to push myself to a new level this week as I have one weigh-in left before ramadan where I probably won't be getting 4/5 lb weekly losses anymore.Last edited by AreebWithaHat; 22-07-2012 at 20:28. -
Re: Areeb's Transformation blog
Beautiful HIIT session-15 minutes on the treadmill and every second was painful. Hopefully next time I can cut out the rest time and increase the sprint time. I'm also contemplating taking out the cardio, replacing it with HIIT and focusing more on my SS routine.
Squats-35kg (still abysmal but hopefully taking out the cardio may have a positive effect)
Military shoulder press-28.6kg
Pendalay row-40kg (really struggled on this so I'm going to keep the same weight next time)

), packet of crisps (McCoys steak) and 2 energy drinks (fish and chips on top of this well if I had the money)
