They were interviews - anonymous - with people who work in the City. It wasn't so much the Guardian. From what I hear its a rather laddish culture with silly hours, going to horrible strip clubs etc.

There are occupational scales to 'slot' you into classes, the Register General's Scale used up until 2000 and the NS-SEC or Rose Scale as it is also known that dates from 2000 up until today. At the moment Sociologists are carrying out quantitive research to create a new system of measure, which would bring other factors into consideration - The Great British Class Survey

Pretty much. I'm pretty sure most bankers don't love their actual job, they love the salary and bonuses that come with it.

You are in the class of humanity. I believe this because I think that its absolutely ridicilous that society should class people. We are equal despite class, creed, race, professsion or gender. After all we are all humans right?

I agree but you are playing into the hands of those people who do not see us as equal. They tell us that class is dead but of course they still live in their large homes, send their children to private school, in effect lead very eparate lives but we are all supposed to be in this together. When we give up on the idea of class we allow the elite to win because they will continue to practice their class warfare and anyone who dares to condemn them for it is accused of engaging in the politics of envy for doing so.

Education - Brought up at the same private school as Cameron and Prince William. I met them and one had a bloody good laugh.
Read the Guardian and the Telegraph. ~(I wont bother changing this )
Politics - A life-long tory who supports every legislation passed by his highness David Cameron. In fact we sometimes discuss them over a lovely meal of Caviar (after giving a rather plush donation of course)
Aims - To build an empire which I pass onto my only son.
Hobbies - reading, politics, history, writing, classical music, learning French. (again I wont bother changing)
Housing - a 33 bed semi (I think). I wont include the joke that is my 18 bedroom house (awfully cramped)
What other info would you use to decide?

Personally, one thinks that one is of a rather low class but one is awfully modest.

    Middle class

A lot of the information you gave (politics/newspaper especially) don't really make any difference to what your class in. Working class people can be right wing and upper class people can be left wing guardian readers. Anyone can have extreme views such as anarchy etc. Obviously different political systems will have different pros and cons for those in different 'classes', but I would say if you were going to define people as certain classes (and who knows why, really) then it's more a socio-economic type thing such as household income, address and type of job rather than political.

Why is it so important? It seems a bit like bragging to me- just be happy as you our. I'm working class and happy, I could be middle class and happy or upper class and happy- class doesn't dictate lives. You're not a box, so don't label yourself, or let others do it. You sound like someone who has too much free time to me, haha.
