Re: How to prepare for results day and UCAS
^ Read that. Save the link to it. Read it again.
Order a copy of The Telegraph to be delivered to your house on results day morning, since it has the Clearing lists in it.
Maybe make a shortlist of courses and universities that you'd be interested in should you miss your offer and they're available in Clearing. You don't want to make a snap decision on results day in your desperation to find a place somewhere and end up at a uni or on a course you really aren't keen on. Better to reapply next year than go and spend three years and about £50,000 on something that isn't right for you.
Have a read of your personal statement again. If you're talking to universities during Clearing then they'll be able to see your original application, and it's possible that they'll mention it, so best if you haven't completely forgotten the whole thing.
Don't have any unavoidable commitments for the rest of results day and preferably at least a couple of days afterwards in case you do end up in Clearing.
And if you have a moment of feeling more optimistic, the only preparation I'd be making for the possibility of getting my place would be to put a bottle or two of something nice in the fridge

Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASGet it from a local newsagents. If you can't find one that will deliver then it would be a good idea to reserve one, if possible.(Original post by M.Abdullahi)
How do I order a copy of The Telegraph to be delivered to your house on results day morning? I've looked everywhere. -
Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASAnd if you can't, get there really early to buy it! I know when I got my A Level results all the shops in the village had sold out by bout lunchtime, so by the time my sister's boyfriend's sister had recovered from the shock of her results and went to get one, she couldn't.(Original post by Potally_Tissed)

Luckily I'd been prepared and had one to donate, but it just adds more stress if you can't get one.
And even if you don't live in a village it's likely the shop nearest your school will be busier than usual so you don't want to waste time having to try a few shops. -
Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASwell do you have to check the telograph can you not look up at the UCAS site and secondly can we call UNIs for places like even if insurance accepted me i dont want to go can i still call other uni to see if they have spacees(Original post by Juno)

Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASYou can, but it's easier to highlight courses you like in a paper, or show your friend, and the UCAS search won't show you linked courses in the same way. The UCAS site may also be very slow - or your internet/computer may break.(Original post by otrivine)

Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASso even if my insurance accepted can i cancel and look for new one ?(Original post by Juno)

and one thing i applied for special consideration cause one of my close family has passed away will my firm take this into account i emailed them . and my school sent it to the exam board? also, shall i contact the exam board to check if they got the special consideration letter?thanks -
Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASIf your Firm rejects you, and your insurance accepts you, then you will need to call your insurance University to release you. This could take time as their phone-lines could be busy during results day, and also it could take them long to release you on UCAS, so its best to call them up before results day if you are 100% sure you don't want to go there.(Original post by otrivine)
so even if my insurance accepted can i cancel and look for new one ?

As for the special consideration, its up to the Uni themselves to decide if they want to take this into account. -
Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASPlus it's possible that the UCAS website won't work at all... When I got my results last year, Track wasn't working at all (and they later claimed that no crucial services were affected by their downtime... erm, Track is crucial on Results Day!(Original post by Juno)

), so it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to take Clearing completely offline for a few hours... As others have said, it'd be best to be prepared with the paper (not that I did, but still...).
Also, the Clearing list is on the UCAS website was available from midnight if I recall correctly, so you could always have a quick look then.
Some unis announce whether or not they're in Clearing a few days before as well, or at least, they did last year.

Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASYes, it's publicly displayed on the UCAS website and in The Telegraph newspaper. And in theory, any Clearing place can also be used for Adjustment, so if it's in Clearing it's worth an enquiry about Adjustment.(Original post by sweatypig)
if you are not in clearing, can you still view the clearing list? Also, can the clearing list reflect the number of vacancies an uni has for the adjustment process? -
Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASWhen I used Clearing (although a few years ago) the UCAS site was really slow at midnight. Applicants generally are worried about their results, can't sleep, and then go on the UCAS site to play.(Original post by River Shadow)

UCAS do now say things like "we have new servers, yay!" each year to keep trying to address the problem, but I've never heard of a year where nobody claims to have had issues accessing the UCAS site. However, this year applications are down nearly 10% so it may be better - but then they say that's due to fewer mature applicants who are less likely to be getting results so may not need the UCAS site anyway.
Some unis will display Clearing lists on their own websites from the beginning of that week, although these may be incomplete, so if there's a uni you're really interested in you could check their website to see if they have any vacancies. -

Re: How to prepare for results day and UCASI'm unsure why you keep asking me the same question, when it must be quite clear by now that I'm ignoring you due to your appalling grammar. Although at least this time you have had some attempt at punctuation.(Original post by otrivine)
