Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!that makes sense! aw then they must have picked up on that and felt like you would fit in with them and their working atmosphere. that sounds good, if you are all quite calm and get on well then it does make it easier to ask questions as and when you need to.(Original post by megan.c)
I really don't think I did that much to impress, the whole staff are very close so I guess they must have thought about who they'd want to spend time with, if there is one thing I'm good at it's being nice! The atmosphere is so relaxed anyway that I'm able to just get on with it and ask anyone questions as and when I feel like it, I really like working the tills and seeing the walls of stuff in the stock room.
The extra shifts are amazing. My pay check for August is going to be great considering I'm doing a couple of 20 hour weeks (lots of over time!). Talking to guests and children is a massive part of the job, literally it's in my contract to spread the magic of Disney, I think most of the people who they interviewed all wanted to be teachers as well so that helped for us.
Listening and acknowledging is definately the right answer so don't worry about not impressing with that xD Though the douche thing might not have bode well, hopefully they will just assume it was from nerves though! How did that even happen?
Think the girl who worked for Disney before seemed really really overly bubbly, whereas me and the third girl in my interview (who also got hired) were a bit more like "Yeah it would be exciting but obviously we're here for a reason!". And like I said, they seemed to hire people who were similar to them and they're quite calm (but very happy and jokey!) people so she may not have fit in.
I'm going mad when I get paid - I want soo much stuff, and I keep seeing things in the store that I'd never have thought I wanted as well. These dolls are right across from the tills so always looking at me and they are soo beautiful (more so than on the website).
Good luck is all I can say
Hope you hear from them soon.
eek yeah i bet! well done for getting the extra in now, makes sense to do lots now whilst you can, i hope your pay cheque is huuuge! now i've finished uni i have less money than when i was a student haha, i could do with some extra shifts too!
haha phew, i'm glad listening and acknowledging is the way forward, i thought it would be but felt a bit lame for repeating it so much
oh man i hope they assume it was from nerves, i have literally never said the word douche in my life before and i rarely swear (especially not at a job or in front of children!) so it was the WORST time to come out with that! i wish i'd stayed behind after the interview and explained that to them actually.
well it was our first question, we were asked to find a gift for a certain person, mine was '18 year old girl' so i chose a beauty and the beast mug, then said that 18 year old girls are tricky but that i thought that a mug was the right choice because at 18 she might be heading off to uni, or into a full time job and living by herself or with friends, and i thought a mug is something she can use and enjoy, plus if she's 18 then she would most likely have grown up having watched beauty on the beast on a regular basis due to it having come out in 1991...thought it was going quite well despite nerves, then the manager asked me to tell them more about beauty and the beast...started to describe belle, stuttered a lot and then ended up coming out with that rubbish about the beast, awful!
it was the first question though and i could feel myself becoming more confident with each one so i hooope it showed and that they will give me the benefit of the doubt!
ah yeah i see what you mean, i reckon they place kindness and care above a bubbly or 'cheesy' sort of personality so i guess it makes sense they went for you guys and not for the girl who'd worked for disney before, and i suppose sometimes being VERY bubbly can come across as fake or a bit insincere almost?
haha yesss, good plan! what is the discount like, i never even considered that when applying but i bet it's a great bonus. i love those dolls too, i saw them in store and they are beautiful, which is your favourite?! i hope you manage to get them!
aww, thanks a lot. i guess there's not much i can do now so will just have to sit tight and hope to hear from them! will report back when i find out on wednesday, am wishing for luck

Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!Yeah, it's best to give off an impression that's friendly but also makes you look like you know what you're doing! I'm only on an 8 hour contract but pay is gooood so that's nearly £60 a week plus any over time I can do, I'm only just starting at uni and I'm getting a scholarship and a pretty good loan and grant but my boyfriend and I are planning on getting a house together when I'm in third year so I'll essentially need to function as a proper adult with bills to pay!(Original post by safety_pin)
....
I repeated myself loads in the interview
What you said you did with the mug sounds spot on, they want people to show they're able to sell a product in many different ways. I picked the Lady and Peg plush toys which was daft as not much to say but must have made it work somehow. If it was your first question as well then there's a very good chance they won't be bothered if you did everything else right!
I'm not sure what the companies policy is on sharing the details of discounts is, but lets just say we are very well looked after as they have to give us a lot of incentives to be on top of our Disney knowledge :P
I love the Belle, Jasmine and Aurora dolls, they're gorgeous! Think I'll limit myself to just one of them though since I have my eye on a load of Vinylmation and plush toys. Have you seen the bear cubs from Brave?! Will be my first purchase when I can afford it
Do let me know! Which store is it you're applying to? -
Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!

Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!I had my boyfriend visiting when I was waiting to hear, don't think I did much to ease the stress - just jabbered on about it until he was sick of me mentioning anything Disney xD(Original post by 04frostj)

Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!I think mine got a bit fed up in the end, ah well. Mum is just happy I've got a job I can keep at uni.(Original post by 04frostj)
Nope! My family are not liking me right now because of it :')
Well hop to it then!
And let me be an annoying sales person and put loads of effort into helping you all - I can pretend I don't know any of you and that I'm just awesome xD -
Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!Wow! i've been trying to find a job there for a while now, how did you go about it?(Original post by Stressworthy)
I worked at Disneyland Paris over Christmas, and although it's not exactly the same - it was in Merchandise. Tbh, as lush as it sounds, I don't want to dash your hopes but it is just another retail job, after all. Don't let it quash your Disney lurve (I know that could never be the case, though
). I would just show your enthusiasm as they do of course want friendly customer service, but otherwise I'd treat it like any retail job interview.
PS Watched the Black Cauldron again for the 444853749th time. Gotta love Gurgi, but I'm still **** scared of the Horned King. -
Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!Final interview? Is it an especially big store?(Original post by 04frostj)
I got into the final interview with the regional manager, so happy!
Don't know what to expect, hopefully it won't be too different the first! -
Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!It's not enormous, for people who have travelled down to London, it's at bluewater shopping centre in Kent. I didn't know there were going to be more than 1 stage of interviews but as the have to fill 7 positions that may be why.(Original post by megan.c)

Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!I've never been to Bluewater(Original post by 04frostj)

Maybe they just found a lot of people the thought would be suitable and are having to whittle it down more? -
Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!IM thinking that's what it is. I'm hoping there wont be too many people in these interviews ... They are stressful!(Original post by megan.c)

Re: Interview at the Disney Store - any advice?!I had my first interview on the 1st and second on the 6th. I was really lunch and just asked about jobs when I was shopping a few days before and a manager said he liked me so squeezed me into an interview they already arrange. I think there is 5 of us and they were looking to fill 7 positions. So you can always try again now(Original post by chlodobaggins)
