Re: Indian Militants Try To Halt An Interracial Marriage Of Indian Girl And Negro ManSo what if a white man doesn't want his daughter to marry a black man?(Original post by Pyramidologist)
Opposing interracial marriage is not racism. I think generally today people are defining ''racism'' however they choose. Its a hard word to define anyway and has changed definition over the years. My definition or understanding of racism is that it is based on those that construct social hierarchical or value judgements upon race and so discriminate.
Is he racist? -
Re: Indian Militants Try To Halt An Interracial Marriage Of Indian Girl And Negro ManBut he'd win by default; not by MMA prowess, so it doesn't really count(Original post by Norton1)
Which is exactly why MLK would win handily.

And I rule that pacifism is a valid fighting techinque. It got the British out of India and they had guns. MLK just has his fighting skills and a snappy dress sense. -
Re: Indian Militants Try To Halt An Interracial Marriage Of Indian Girl And Negro ManWell in this case, passive aggression might just do the trick(Original post by Norton1)

Attention: wedding was stopped because the black man was not sikh it was not racist. In the sikh holy book you both have to be sikh to gain a wedding at the temple. But of course you can just go down the registry office for pete sake.

Re: Indian Militants Try To Halt An Interracial Marriage Of Indian Girl And Negro ManNo. Opposing interracial marriage is not racism. Freedom of association and speech allows people to oppose race mixing if they choose, and they are not a silly ''ism'' for doing so.(Original post by TRS-T)
So what if a white man doesn't want his daughter to marry a black man?

Re: Indian Militants Try To Halt An Interracial Marriage Of Indian Girl And Negro Man'Negro' (with a capital N) was, and I guess still is, an acceptable, politically correct term for African-Americans. However, it is now outdated and used rarely. At this point the only individuals who would use it are those of the older generation. 'Black' or 'African-American' are really the only acceptable terms. If someone referred to me as 'Coloured' or a 'Negro' I would be offended, but I don't think that's applicable for every black person.(Original post by blu tack)
Was the title written in Spanish?
'Negro' in English has a bad connotation, and can be considered offensive. It's just as easy to use an inoffensive word.
Unless you're about 80, the only reason to use 'negro' would be to rile people up. -
Re: Indian Militants Try To Halt An Interracial Marriage Of Indian Girl And Negro Man
was it really necessarily to stereotype and write indian militants. From what i can tell this happened in the UK. These people are not Indian. They are british asians or british indians. But most British Indians don't give 2 ****s about India and they don't even identify as Indian so i am offended that you write Indian militant. It was actually a British asian Sikh group. Even the article wrote militants not Indian militants. You're a racist. Lots of british asians are racist to freshies and Indians from India so it should be british asian militant. Anuj Bidve, the brave Indian student is an Indian.
What happened was disgusting and i don't agree with it all. It reflects the narrow mindedness of British Indian Sikh people and the British asian community in Birmingham but I am an a non-British Indian so i will not accept this generalising to all indians. -
Re: Indian Militants Try To Halt An Interracial Marriage Of Indian Girl And Negro ManMLK was inspired by Gandhi and Gandhi was a product of his british education. I don't deny he had some racist beliefs. No person is perfect but that doesn't nullify the good he did. I don't believe in non-violence being the solution to all.(Original post by Norton1)
Which is exactly why MLK would win handily.
I disagree with the events that happened here but that doesn't mean we have to go on a Gandhi vs MLK fight. Gandhi would have probably liked to have been beaten up and wouldn't have opposed it if it bought peace.
