Maybe it will be like Rear Window or Disturbia and you will have to catch the killer yourself by spying on them in the next few weeks and everytime you phone the police they think you're crazy until you have one last showdown with them in which you eventually prevail.

    Im sure that wont happen.

Good decision, at least you have a clear conscience!

Must be quite spooky for you. I hope the woman is alright, get back to us.

It's not really the same but we called the police once because we saw someone laying in the middle of the street at about 10pm at night. She looked like she'd passed out from drinking but hey ho, it's Essex so no surprises there. Better to be safe than sorry.

They would only knock on your door if they had reason to believe something did happen for the purposes of gaining information from you.

My parents are on holiday so I'm house-sitting at the moment. I was out in my drive having a fag about 10.30 and I heard a really distressed sounding woman's scream from one of the houses behind mine. I just sort of dismissed it then I heard it again a few minutes later. It didn't sound like a giggly, kids messing about kind of scream at all. So I come inside, trying not to panic but my mind does go a bit haywire so all these thoughts of axe-murderers in my village were running through my mind. I live in a small, rural village and nothing really ever happens here. So I was like mm, it'll be fine, just lock the doors and windows and go to sleep. But then I was worried that if something did happen and I didn't say anything, I'd feel terrible. So I rung the police who were lovely even though I sounded like a crazy woman, and they're sending someone out to check.

Not sure why I'm posting this thread, really! I'm just worried. The woman I spoke to took my name, address and phone number so I'm hoping they don't come round to speak to me tonight as I'm in my jammies looking like a mong.

Has anyone called the police for something like this? Do they get back in touch with you?
Always best to phone the police. Once my mum and I heard noises coming from half built house next door, she phoned the police thinking it was kids trashing it, or stealing building supplies, and she ended up busting some major drug ring haha.

Fair play to you OP even if nothing was going down better to be safe than sorry after all that is why the Police are here to prevent crimes and investigate potential ones I myself have had to call them a couple of times due to some bloody hicks having a jolly at 2am with rifles in the field next to my house -_-

To be honest I've worried about this happening when we have the window open and my boyfriend tickles me. I scream like he's got an axe, I really really hate being tickled.

You made the right call - but I wouldn't worry now, because it could be something perfectly innocent.

I'd ignore him. The police would have some competency to actually check the house
Unless they have a reason (they hear the woman scream) to enter the house without invitation they need a warrant to enter.

Pfft amateur killer letting victims get a scream out.

In all seriousness there could be a number of explanations, however you did the right thing.

Lets hope its nothing, but who knows it could actually turn out to be an extremely important part of a future investigation... but then i have a really over active imagination.

Nothing to worry about; you did the right thing.

If they do knock on your door, it'll just be a few questions and that's it.

Axe murderer in dundee? Aye right. OP you cracked me up. If there was someone killing people, go out and help her, bring a kitchen knife and run around outside shouting: 'WHERE ARE YA!?'

    Re: Just called the police
Did you know that small villages tend to have an inordinately high average rate of murders? I read it a while back, it's not like in more urban areas where violent crime is generally linked to other criminal activity either, the likelihood of crazed killing sprees defined primarily by their extreme barbarism and general aimless bloodlust, particularly towards innocent young girls who are home alone and therefore isolated while the savage madman has his way with them, is much higher. Mad how much information you can find on the internet innit

I'm sure it will be fine!

Good to check all the windows and doors are locked just in case though I suppose.
but otoh if the serial killer had already got in before you locked the window and is hiding in the wardrobe... Well you've just signed your own death warrant as you'll never get out of the house quickly enough now :yep:

It was probably a woman who was just out walking her dog and saw a mouse or something! Good on you phoning the police though, did the right thing definitely.

    Re: Just called the police
Ha, probably a fox screeching. There are loads of them round where I lived in the UK and it sounded like someone being killed/raped

But what I would have been more worried about is that if the serial killer was real, that he knew you had phoned the police and was in the house after you have locked up. It's why I then always search the house after horror films and setting every alarm possible.
