Re: Just called the policeI'm glad I read the rest of these replies this morning rather than last night, don't think I'd have slept!
I haven't heard anything else so I'm assuming everything is fine.

Re: Just called the policeYou did the right thing. Something similar happened to me a few years back, very similar to your situation. The police came around and checked but all was fine (good news if you think about), I eventually asked them whether I wasted their time and they said that I did the right thing and it's better to be safe than sorry.(Original post by truthandtragedy)
My parents are on holiday so I'm house-sitting at the moment. I was out in my drive having a fag about 10.30 and I heard a really distressed sounding woman's scream from one of the houses behind mine. I just sort of dismissed it then I heard it again a few minutes later. It didn't sound like a giggly, kids messing about kind of scream at all. So I come inside, trying not to panic but my mind does go a bit haywire so all these thoughts of axe-murderers in my village were running through my mind. I live in a small, rural village and nothing really ever happens here. So I was like mm, it'll be fine, just lock the doors and windows and go to sleep. But then I was worried that if something did happen and I didn't say anything, I'd feel terrible. So I rung the police who were lovely even though I sounded like a crazy woman, and they're sending someone out to check.
Not sure why I'm posting this thread, really! I'm just worried. The woman I spoke to took my name, address and phone number so I'm hoping they don't come round to speak to me tonight as I'm in my jammies looking like a mong.
Has anyone called the police for something like this? Do they get back in touch with you? -

I remember when I was much younger, I used to watch lots and lots of TV and movies and I was always scared when I was outside (in London) as I thought there'd be stray dogs around the corner, scary black knife-wielding youths, that I'd be shot by a car driving past, and when home alone that my family had all been killed as they weren't home yet, or that there was an intruder in the house in the dark sitting room downstairs, or that a door had been left unlocked and a vicious dog has come in, or that my family and I would all be slaughtered as we slept etc etc.
I've since stopped watching crap and paranoia is completely absent and I'm now a man. -
Re: Just called the policeThere's not much more they can do, just because they didn't receive any other phone calls? I mean, did they not go round to the house and knock, to ask the woman what the screaming was? What if other people heard the screams but originally like you, weren't sure whether to phone or not?(Original post by truthandtragedy)
Just had the police at my door but they just said that they haven't received any other calls so there's not much more they can do but I did the right thing by phoning. Mind's at ease now! -
Re: Just called the policeThat's not true. It's to to with the number of guns in an area not the number of people who live alone. Incidentally, in my village of 100 houses there are three people living alone and about half in couples (the rest in families). There are at least 20 licensed guns that I know of.(Original post by JCC-MGS)
Did you know that small villages tend to have an inordinately high average rate of murders? I read it a while back, it's not like in more urban areas where violent crime is generally linked to other criminal activity either, the likelihood of crazed killing sprees defined primarily by their extreme barbarism and general aimless bloodlust, particularly towards innocent young girls who are home alone and therefore isolated while the savage madman has his way with them, is much higher. Mad how much information you can find on the internet innit -

Re: Just called the policeMm that's what I was thinking, but I did all that I can do really so it's up to them. They asked if I heard any voices or shouting which I didn't, so I guess if someone was really in trouble then I'd have heard something like that. And I wasn't sure exactly which house it came from so they would have had to knock on all of the surrounding houses at 12am which people probably wouldn't have been happy about!(Original post by You Failed)

My imagination did go a little wild! I was sitting on the bus and started envisioning me on the telly talking about what happened and all the news headlines. But nah, I think it's all fine thankfully!

Re: Just called the policeJust like everyone else, I'm sure you did the right thing calling the police just to be safe but now let's reflect on the very likely situation that you heard her having sex(Original post by truthandtragedy)

Re: Just called the police
This story reminds me of a time my mother called the police.
Once a few years back at about 10pm we got a knock on our door, turned out to be the neighbour from across the road. She was terrified as she had heard someone scratching at the back door and was convinced someone was trying to break in to her house (she'd heard 'human grunting' noises). We lived in quite a secluded area as well, lots of trees around each house and stuff, pretty spooky at night.
Anyway, my mum gets straight on the phone to the police and my father and I, being the macho beasts that we are, head on over with a golf club each. So we're heading around the side of the house and out pops a head around the back corner. Turns out it was the neighbours husband, who was supposed to be out until late, pissed off his face. He's not got a clue who we are (we hardly knew the guy, it was my mother and the wife who were friends), and he's pissed, so naturally he presumes we're some sort of criminal gang lmao. So he starts shouting his head off at us and as if on queue flashing lights. Police had been nearby and the buggers were already here, so now we're in this guys garden wielding gold clubs while he's shouting blue murder about us being 'thiefs' with the police coming up behind us like wtf.
Thankfully it all worked out in the end

Re: Just called the policeI'm sorry, allow me to quote from the original post; "Has anyone called the police for something like this? Do they get back in touch with you?"(Original post by mangoh)
Talk about trying to take OP's lime light and make the story all to do with an experience you had.
Hope you don't do this in real life.
Learning curve, don't relate things about you as the story was long, boring and doesn't help the OP.
Before anyone rants at me i'm only being honest and helping other TSR members to get more helpful answers. We should all come forward instead of hiding behind the crap reputation system.
On topic (contributed already so going to keep this bit short) : OP glad everything is okay now, if you need us, you know where we are
Could I possibly have been answering the question any more then I was? I told a story about a time we had called the police over something vaguely similar and what the response had been. Yes I told a story, it may not have been to your liking, but kindly realise I don't give a donkey excrement whether you enjoyed it or not.
Also, wtf are you possibly on about. Lime-light? What lime-light was either my story or the OPs story supposed to create? But congratulations, you contributed so much by bumping an old thread which is no longer relevant.
I love it, a hyped up GCSE student (oh yes, I checked you silly little boy) trying to tell me about a learning curve. Could you possibly be more socially handicapped. Kindly jump off the nearest tall object? -

Re: Just called the policeOf course it does. I asked for experiences of people having to call the police about an incident. It was nice to read a story which turned out humorous!
But yes thank you, all fine. -
Re: Just called the police
OP I had exactly the same experience. I heard a woman screaming for help around 3am. I thought it was students being daft but when I intently listened it sounded distressing. I called the police (999) and they said they will send someone. However nothing came of it until about a few weeks after when my friend told me that there's a mentally unstable woman who screams a lot so it could have been that. Could have been anything really. I think you did the right thing.
