I want bright red hair! Help!
I've currently got red hair (see my profile pic) but I want it BRIGHT red. I use Live Colour XXL. I've just bought some La Riche Bleach and some Directions semi-permanent Pillar Box Red dye.

I'm thinking of using Colour B4. Do I need to or can I just bleach the colour I've got?

If I use Colour B4, how long do I have to wait before I can bleach it?

    Thanks in advance.

Ahhh... I have a lot of experience with this and I really wouldn't recommend bleaching your hair after recently colouring your hair... you can pretty much garentee its gonna go a really funny colour and/or damage your hair... your best bet it to get the colour stripped from your hair at a hairdressers, as the home DIY ones only strip the colour and leave your hair quite damaged and a hideous colour due to all the peroxide in the hairdyes.. if you do though, you might want to invest in some Moroccan oil (you can get some for like £6/£7) and it will help majorly with the damage the bleach will do to your hair...

If your still going to bleach it without stripping I'd suggest doing it with the 6% peroxide rather than the 12% and doing it gradually... The pillar box red hairdye is an awesome colour though! But be careful if it rains for the first few days after dying your hair as it'll come out and ruin your lovely white tops.

Oh and when you've dyed it, mix some of the dye into some conditioner and put it on your hair at least once a week to keep it a bright shade of red. This will also save you money in the long run!

    Hope it goes as planned!

oh, I forgot to mention that if you dye your hair often, the bleach will take longer to get an even colour because of all the build up so it might take longer...

I'd strip it as much as you can with colour B4, try and stick out that stripped colour for a week then bleach it with vol 30 bleach. Directions colours work best on really pale blonde hair. My lilac wouldn't take until I'd toned it, but red might be different. Leaving directions colours on for hours is great though for best results.

Manic Panic in Pillarbox Red is a good dye, it's slightly more expensive than other dyes though.

Thank you do much! This is great advice! The dye in the conditioner is a brilliant idea! I always have a little bit left over afterwards! xx

What colour are you naturally? I went bright red, using pillarbox from naturally black hair so it's achievable.
Personally I wouldn't use ColourB4, I've used it and it was just terrible. It didn't work and it made my hair horrible. I'd go to a hairdressers and ask for a bleach bath/strip the hair, This will make it easy to go to the 'bright red' colour. Manic Panic do amazing semi perm hair dyes.

As somebody before me said, put a little in your conditioner to keep the colour topped up.

I'm naturally mousy brown. I used Colour B4 about 2 years ago an it was a bit crap, I just thought it might get enough of the colour out to bleach it. (I've never bleached it before so I'm thinking I've been a little naïve!)

If I go to the hairdressers and get it stripped, will I just be able to do it from home from then on? i.e. Bleach my roots myself as my hair grows, and still get the same results?

Thanks for your reply, the advice ie had has been amazing. You've probably saved me from a SERIOUS hair disaster! Haha! xx

Colour B4 didn't work for me with red, I've always just bleached the red out since. Easier.

Oh also the vegetable based dyes work better on bleached hair because it's more porous

I couldn't be bothered reading all responses (sorry if it's been mentioned)

I've recently went brown after having BRIGHT red hair for 3 years, go to Sallys Salon Services and get Loreal Majicontrast in "red" and also get 10 vol developer, basically the higher the vol the more lift it gives your hair and less deposition of colour, but since your hair is already red you don't have to use such a strong volume, you're looking for more colour so use the 10vol for the first time, then next time use a 1.9 from then on for re-dying. You hair will go bright red. You can see the colour my hair was in my profile picture, here are some more examples of the colour my hair went..

That's what my hair looked like inside and outside, I hope this helps you out a little. Loreal Majicontrast is an amazing dye and considering it is a dye it's actually as nourishing as you could possibly get for being one, your hair won't feel horrible using it!
