Hi i passed my test about a month ago and i am buying my car (vauxhall corsa 2011) very soon. i am really nervous to drive it and the car is about 1 hour away from my house which i will have to drive on my own (as my dad will be driving his car back). am i the only who feels nervous about this? any tips? thanks.

i understand that but its not really the novelty i am worried about. i haven't driven for like a month and i have to drive for an hour on a really busy road. i don't want to cause any havoc on the road!

Just go at your own pace, and don't panic - you passed your test for a reason.

I know how you feel, I bought a car 4 years after passing my test, not having drove nice my test. I had to go pick it up about 10 miles away, however I had refresher lesson, also I found having P plates on the car made me feel more comfortable. People gave me a bit of space to take it easy. Get P plates if you don't have them already

If it makes you feel any better as soon as I passed I was shaking etc because I was used to someone next to me, but once you get on some familiar roads and out of the junctions it comes back to you .

I meant enjoy it, because the novelty of driving a "new" (to you) car doesn't come along everyday!

I had the same nerves when I bought my first car about 2 months after passing - you'll be fine after you've driven the first few minutes.

Could you take a friend along too? Just so you're not on your own, even though you'll be driving? Moral support type stuff?

If you are really nervous just drive around some quiet backstreet roads for a bit.

When I got my first car that was not a shed I was also nervous about pranging it but you soon get used to it.

I used to find I was a worse Driver with a passenger so if you are too then avoid having a passenger.

Would have gotten an older car for first car... That way you don't have to worry too much about damaging it or anything.

Might be worth telling your dad you're feeling a bit nervous and ask him to sit in with you for a few minutes while you get used to the car before setting off home. You can follow him back so you don't need to worry too much about finding your way, and perhaps suggest stopping somewhere half way back.

I'm getting a new car soon as well, and I'm really nervous about test driving some, and I've been driving almost 3 years now (granted I've been driving the same car for all that time). You've just got to jump into it (metaphorically), just think "I can do this!" and try to feel confident about your own abilities.

I change every 6 weeks or so. I can't understand people that stick with the same car for years and years - it must be boring as hell!
