Missed my conditional offer
So I got my IB results last week and I failed to meet my conditional offer of 36 with 655 at HL and a minimum of 5 in HL English A1. I achieved an overall score of 33 with a 665 at HL and a 6 at HL English. My overall score might change still, as my IBC and teacher don't agree with the our class' grades for Dutch A1. This is for the new Politics of the International Economy course btw.
I phoned the college already but they simply said that I have to wait till A-level results come out (He didn't ask for my grades or what course I applied for). I heard stories from people who called UCL with the same issue and they were more personal and listened to their motivation, passion and are going to look over the application again. I'm sad that King's didn't give me the opportunity to show all of this - near the end of the call I asked if I could send a motivational letter but he said no.
I was wondering if anyone here has any advice of me. Or is there someone who missed their offer for King's but got in anyway? -

KCL have already given you some personal attention when they received your application and reviewed your personal statement to decide whether or not to give you an offer. Can you imagine how busy they'd be if everyone who failed to meet their conditional offer rang up to show their passion or read extra emails and letters to show your motivation ... you've already showed that in your personal statement. The people who go over your UCAS application aren't just employed for that role, they have a main job where they do their own research, teaching, have tutor groups etc.
The issue is, universities generally give more offers than there are places because they know some applicants will not meet the grades and that others will not put them as firm. So even though you may have missed your conditional offer, they could still end up filling the course by the other applicants who have firmed them. You may still have a chance though after A-level results day, as you say it's a brand new course so there may still be places available because not many people may know about it.
Well done on getting 33, I wish you all the best, hopefully they'll let you in on results day but you'll have to just be patient and wait to see if there are any places. Did you have an insurance choice, have you met that? -
Re: Missed my conditional offerYes I completely understand, that's also why I was a bit hestitant to call at first as I know that your personal statement is basically all that. However, I kept reading threads where people are like "Call the ASAP! Show your dedication!", so I decided to give it a shot.(Original post by mirror+probe)

Thank you, although I should have been getting a 7 for Dutch, and I got a 5 and my teacher is really unsatisfied with the moderation (normally she's more strict so results end up being higher), so my IBC is ordering the exams back to the school. So I'm kind of disappointed with my overall score. I don't have an insurance choice in the UK unfortunately, but then again King's really was the only college I could actually see myself attending (hence the dedication etc).
Thanks again

Re: Missed my conditional offerI really hope your mark goes up, you obviously really want to go there. It's good that you called because otherwise you would have been thinking ''What if I had rang?"(Original post by zoulikhahaha)

Wait and see what happens with the remark, and then take it from there. All the best.

Re: Missed my conditional offer
I'm not sure about your course as it's new but I know two people who missed out their scores by a point in IB and still managed to get Unconditional offers by the end of August. Those were for Business Management and Law though. I don't want to bring any false hope, but it could be the same case with you. It's abit like chasing a virtually lost cause, but if you are willing to take the risk and play the waiting game, it may be worthwhile in the end.
Good luck with whatever you do though! -
Re: Missed my conditional offer
Sorry, no advice but I'm in the same boat as you. I missed my offer by a point and emailed them about it. They told me that they can't make a decision until the 17th of August. Arghhh still don't think that gives me enough time to sort out my visa :/ The waiting sucks...

Re: Missed my conditional offerOh wow but those are amongst King's most competitive courses right? I don't wanna lose hope so I'm not considering it a lost cause yet haha, plus I don't have anything to lose basically.. If I don't get in I hope to find a nice place through Clearing but I don't wanna think about that yet.. Thanks though, I appreciate it!(Original post by hct1802)

Re: Missed my conditional offerYeah I got the same reply! What course did you apply for? I'm lucky I'm an EU student and live in the Netherlands so I'm really close so it won't be much of a hassle to still get everything sorted in such a short time. It would've just made my holiday so much better if I just got the points you know(Original post by thecitylights)

Especially since I did everything I could but the moderator for Dutch just happened to suck and I happened to be ONE point off of a higher grade in Math SL, a subject for which remarks won't help :')
The waiting sucks, I know, but then again, patience is a virtue.

Re: Missed my conditional offerI applied for Biomed! And I was three marks off a higher grade in Maths SL! Grrr haha. It feels like I'm stuck in limbo, can't really celebrate the fact that I got into KCL, can't be depressed over the fact that I didn't... it's just waiting. Hopefully it'll all work out for the both of us! Congrats on both of us for passing IB though!(Original post by zoulikhahaha)
