Calling All Londoners
Hello
I am trying to narrow down the best places to go in london for a pungent mix of culture and art in 1 day.
So the places I have are thus:
Caribbean market - Brixton
Covent Garden Market - Covent Garden
Camden Market - Camden
Queen's Market - Upton Park
South Bank Area / Centre
West minster cathedral? Or tower?
Brunei Gallery
National & Portrait Gallery (must go to these two though)
If you have been to any of these places, are any of them rubbish areas? -
Re: Calling All London'ersBrixton is not very safe at night. Not for someone who isn't used to the area anyway.. Camden should be allright as long as you keep to the main roads(Original post by DanielMartin)

Re: Calling All London'ersI meant, in terms of visiting them .... are they worth seeing? as I heard Camden is judged as a show or a fake?(Original post by xXxiKillxXx)

Re: Calling All London'ersWell to be honest I wouldn't bother with Queens Market in Upton Park (I live 20 minutes from it) because to be honest its not very cultural or arty(Original post by DanielMartin)

Although, the famous one pound fish man can be found there if you are lucky!
Other suggestions seem much nicer IMHO -

I want to go the caribbean areas / more cultural areas instead of an indian man selling fish xD I can see that in Nottingham..
Trouble is, is it worth going down to brixton? -

Re: Calling All Londoners
Camden is a really great place to go, I love it there
.
Ignore the market (under the green Camden Market sign as it's awful: it's just a load of tack) and look around the Stables Market instead. There are loads of vintage shops, clothes/music/shisha places...there is also a vast array of food places to choose from. Full of interesting characters.
Primrose Hill is also a 10 min walk away, I love going up there to look at the views.
Brick Lane is also a great place to visit on a Sunday. Aside from the curry resturants there is a huge market selling vintage stuff, arts and crafts, art and food. Shoreditch is also just around the corner...so you can go to Boxpark (pop up shopping centre).
The area is also good for art: The Whitechapel Gallery is just by Aldgate East station (at the start of Brick Lane) and there is a HUGE amount of amazing street art dotted all over Brick Lane/Shoreditch.
Spitalfields is also around the corner which has a load of shops/places to eat. -
Re: Calling All LondonersCamden, it's very diverse cos there's always tourists all the time, they recently made things mode pedestrianised.(Original post by DanielMartin)
