Re: TSR photo competitionAww thanks!(Original post by snailsareslimy)
I absolutely love your see through butterfly entry; it's beautiful!
thank you so much for your kind words
I use a Sony A380, and 70-300mm Tamron, 50mm Sony and 18-55mm Sony lenses! Fisheye lens and a flashgun is next on my wishlist
(although a flashgun is much more probable, the proper fisheye is so expensive
).
I think our cameras are around the same level, too, which is cool
No really, they're amazing photos!!! Nice! is that 14Mp?? My friend swears by Sony..very good lenses, was looking at a compact one for HD video at 1080p, the sony 9V cyber shot. Yeah my Canon is very good -down side no video! Its 10MP but has a good sensor.
lol lenses cost a fortune! I was looking for a macro but geess..way too expensive!

Re: TSR photo competitioni dunno, people might think they're overedited? or they just don't like them?(Original post by RickReezi)

Re: TSR photo competitionyou instagram some of these by any chance?(Original post by JK)
Here's a few of mine. Living in London there are the inevitable landmark pics, and some of the Diamond Jubilee flyover which went right over my house!

although I don't think MP matters too much. I'm actually not a massive Sony fan, they don't have enough lenses and they're going down the SLT route now which sucks. I'll probably reinvest and get a better Canon/Nikon in the future, with video. I didn't think any of my lenses were too bad, but you can really tell in the results that it's cheap glass (not so much the 50mm, more do the other 2), but that's to be expected when one was free and one cost under £100!

Re: TSR photo competitionYeah I guess if you want to blow it up to A3! Not often! Sony is really good, but I love Canon and Nikon, I have my Canon SLR and Nikon compact-fab, and a wide range of lenses as you said. The Canon 600D looks amazing for video! Yeha lol! Tell me about it! Cheap glass shows! I thought it was my camera but its actually the glass!(Original post by snailsareslimy)

you instagram some of these by any chance?
Just had them on my phone so uploaded the best ones. -
Re: TSR photo competitionI thought that too!(Original post by CJ)
Anyone else think the first one of yours could have come from Lord of the Rings? -
Re: TSR photo competitionyeah, the biggest problem with slt IMO is that for the AF to work, the mirror reflects about 30% of the light to those sensors, meaning less reaches the sensor; hence you need a higher iso for the equivalent aperture/shutter speed combination..which sucks.(Original post by snailsareslimy)
The SLT cameras are not nice at all (imo anyway). I was in Jessops a few weeks ago and had a look at one (thinking about upgrading, would like a camera that can film too as I'd like to do some creative film work eventually as a little side project), and the viewfinder... :| It really was not good. I feel as if you'd get a sore eye looking through it, so it definitely put me off. I wish Sony would have just invested more money into making better/more lenses than the SLT range (although I'm sure they take nice enough photos, the viewfinder is a no go for me!) -

I use a Sigma 17-70mm (f2.8-4) as a standard, walk around lens, and a Canon 55-250mm for telephoto work

Re: TSR photo competitionThanks!! Your photos are fab!!! Love the royal marine! And the airplanes, really good quality, oooh the canon 55-250mm lens? What do you think of the quality of the lens? the photos look really good quality! Im beggining to think the quality of my photography is down to my lens or just my novice photography!!(Original post by aviatordom)

Sigma lenses are really good too. How did you get that photo of the royal marine? Really great shot!

Re: TSR photo competitionAww thank you. The Canon 55-250mm isn't the quickest lens around in terms of focus, but it was the best lens for the price. Then again, a lot of boils down to practice with the aircraft shots. They move so quickly that it's not worth using a tripod, and trying to keep the lens as still as possible at 250mm and trying to get a half decent shot of something that is moving really fast isn't easy. You do a lot of wildlife photography so it must be really difficult trying to keep as still as possible not to scare the animal and trying to keep still to avoid camera shake at a long focal length.(Original post by africananimals)

Despite my username, I rarely photograph aircraft so it's probably a weak subject area for me. It's not easy trying to get a close up shot of an aircraft at 250mm when it's moving at 150 odd mph.
My only real advice for you is to is to sort of 'brace' your shoulders and arms so that you bring them closer towards your body when shooting, if you're not already, to minimize the risk of camera shake.
The 17-70mm is a great kit lens replacement. It's a lot heavier, more bulky (but more solid) than the standard 18-55mm lens though. And for a walk around lens, I don't think I would really want anything much bigger.
The shot of the Royal Marine was taken from the jetty right beside HMS Ocean, the big ship that is in Greenwich providing protection for the Olympics. The ship was open to the public on Sunday
I'm not sadly a photographer in any of the armed forces
