Burrell House/rees hall/computing courses/general questions!
Hey guys,
I'm Zack, first year repeating computing student.
I'm available to answer any questions about the following:
Burrell House (I'm 2.3)
The food at Rees Hall/Burrell House
General Rees Hall
General Portsmouth (library, clubs etc)
Computing courses
Cycling questions (including bike stores)
During the first week of term in Burrell, please feel free to come to my room if you need help with anything, from connecting your computer to the Wifi to finding out where your first lecture is.
Please feel free to put any questions here, and I'll do my very best to help you!

Re: Burrell House/rees hall/computing courses/general questions!
Hey Zack
I've got a couple of questions.
How tasty is the food at Rees? And what's the seating arrangments like? E.g are there big long tables making it easy to meet people?
Also, how long does it take to get to the main quarter? And is it easy to get back after a night out :P ?
Oh, and I've been allocated room 418, know if that's got a sea view
?
Thanks, Joe.Last edited by jcm6084; 12-07-2012 at 13:12. Reason: Added one more question. -
Re: Burrell House/rees hall/computing courses/general questions!
Hello Joe,
The food at Rees is alright, at the start of the term it's really good, then it declines in tastiness towards the end of the term. Due to the budget dwindling.
The seating arrangements are as you say, long tables with seats either side, very easy to meet people.
To get to the main town is a 10 minute walk sober, and a £4 taxi journey back; I'd reccommend Aquacars on 02392666666, always cheaper than the rest of the cab companies, quick, and done on distance rather than a meter.
Rees and Burrell share the same eating facilities located at Rees, I assume you're at Rees? I know you can see the sea just from 4.18 at Burrell, I don't know how the rooms are laid out in Rees! -

Re: Burrell House/rees hall/computing courses/general questions!
From experience, Burrell is awesome; it really is what you make it. The rooms aren't bad, there is enough room in a standard room to fit 4 people comfortably whilst having a drink, or 8 or 9 if you want to be a little squashed

The kitchen facilities in Burrell are excellent, there is a full kitchen with an oven, sink, microwave, and kettle, as long as other residents keep it tidy then it's good
Rees; has a pantry, theres a microwave and a sink!
Breakfast is from 8-9:30 for cooked breakfast (cold breakfast is available here too), 9:30 - 10 for cold
Evening meals are from 4:45 - 6:45 and on a weekend 1-3 for lunch.
So there is plenty of time! -

Hi Ryan,
are you wanting to start the computer aided product design course in September 2013? -
Re: Burrell House/rees hall/computing courses/general questions!
Hiyyyya,
I've got a few questions if you don't mind me asking!
I've just accepted a place to do Childhood and Youth Studies with Psychology starting in September and I have no idea which halls to go for! I'm going to be 22 when the course starts, therefore would ideally like to live with other slightly older students..... I really like the idea of Rees / Burrell as the seafront location is amazing
however, do you know if the slightly older students tend to go for one particular type of halls?!
Also, I ideally would like to bring my car with me. I have read that only Langstone offer parking (and I don't want to live there.....) so do you know of anywhere in central Southsea / Portsmouth that parking might be available?
Thanks in advance for you help!

Re: Burrell House/rees hall/computing courses/general questions!
I can't decide out of Rees or burrel.
I know for definite I would like catered.
I'm more outgoing, party type so preferably a hall with these sorts of people.
Value for money is important as accommodation seems pricey.
Clean, large etc would be a bonus.
Finally nearer to town the better.
So those are my requirements - the ones higher up are more of a priority to me.
Which would be better - Rees or barrel? And are there any other halls you recommend to suit my requirements? -
Re: Burrell House/rees hall/computing courses/general questions!
I plan to go to Rees Hall in September if all the documentation goes through, I don't mix with other people but in the food hall where they serve the food, do you expect people to sit next to you and talk while eating? because I prefer to be on my own especially while eating.
