I have been contemplating whether to go to Henrietta Barnett or not. This is because of all the pressure placed on the pupils and the extensive amounts of work that has to be done at home. I am pretty relaxed, but when the pressures on, i can get the work done.
I really want a different opinion of the school which one do you think is better Woodhouse or HB ?
( I have tried to weigh up the pros and cons of each school, but they are pretty similar)
And if anyone goes to HB, i'd like to know what they thought of the school and how the work load and general working environment is ?

I have that choice to make to ;o

Personally I'm not to keen on HB; I didn't really dig the skl when got there and I would prefer going to a mixed college. Plus, I'm also aware that it's like one of the best schools in London so many people would expect me to jump at the chance to go there :/ but really, I'd rather go somewhere else and I've been told that the girls above me who now go their literally hate it. Although, that's just there opinion so many choices to make this summer!! Ugh

HB is no fun, but Woodhouse sucks. It's been in terminal decline for decades, and is dominated by posers. My wife went to Woodhouse and hated it, my brother went and regretted it, my sister-in-law is a vacuous attention-whore and she loved it.

Sure, HB is full of chinese girls with glasses and violins and girls whose parents were too stingy to pay for them to go to Channing....but you get what you pay for. It's like the austerity-era version of North London Collegiate. Hard work and no cool stuff.

So im a poser now am i ................................ ...plus I've had first hand experience of Woodhouse, it certainly isn't in decline with recent refurbishment, plus it gets pretty good results still very consistently.
How would you know whats it like, if you personally haven't been there or experienced anything, just because you know 2 people who didn't enjoy their time doesn't mean it's the same with others.

Woodhouse is unquestionably in decline. In the 80s, it was a top class college. Since then, apart from taking far too many students from Christchurch school*, there have been far too many kids that are only interested in showing off and flashing their clothes and ID cards about. Year on year decline in standards, muppets for Principles, recurring drug problems.

It's a dump, full of people that think they're on some kind of appalling bastard child of Glee and Hollyoaks and HB is boring - but the better place to be absolutely every single day of the week.


*so bad that it had to be closed down and renamed - but formed the nucleus of generations of Woodhouse students.

Nor has it declined, nor is their a major issue of drug problems that is pretty normal at any school, you'll always have a few who do drugs.

It has declined. From one of the best VI Forms in the country to an extremely average one. All the evidence shows exactly that. Woodhouse is very average.

I've heard of HB, and it probably has some ranking in the league tables. On the other hand, perhaps go to the place which you feel 'feels' right.

I don't know how old you are, but how well you do - at school at least - when you have some kind of academic ability is usually based of how hard you work. So perhaps go to the place you'd work hardest at, enjoy the subjects on offer more, and be happiest at in general (in terms of sports, societies).

I'm sure both schools send their children to good university destinations. It may be reported in their websites, but if not you could always stalk facebook or linkedin to see where recent graduates have ended up.

Any school, college or even university is only as good as its pupils.

You seem to be quite sold on Woodhouse already - otherwise I suspect you'd be more open minded to criticism of it.

Just don't make the mistake of believing the hype. It was once a very, very good VI Form - today it's just about average. The idea that it's in the top 30 is ludicrous.

On the other hand - HB is always at the top or near it.

If you go to Woodhouse, be honest with yourself and admit that you're not doing it because it's excellent. You'd be going to a mediocre establishment living off past glories.

Drug problem is normal in any state institution, a very small minority actually do drugs......it would be the same at HB as well.

Well im in Yr9 at henrietta barnett and i think the pressure actually helps me work better. The fact that im sort of competing with my friends means that i get higher grades. And the lessons are challenging and the teachers are really good.

I think you're an arrogant fool who has obviously had some type of rejection from Woodhouse college. It is an excellent place to study and has superb pass rates and the students believe in old fashioned courtesy which is favourable. I think you're a fool who got rejected by one of the top colleges in London

im in year 10 at henrietta barnett and frankly cant wait to leave. Whilst there are great results the school decline to let you know the downside: the number of people with eating disorders, depression and similar problem due to the work ethos and overall pressure from the girls. Facilities aren't great and imo its the students that give the extra effort with many receiving tutoring outside of school. Most peiple who come here for sixth form instantly regret it. If youre looking for parties and fun this is completely the wrong place. But if you cry when getting an a instead of an a* welcome home lol.

Like any college, there will be students that are happy and students that are doing well.

As an institution, however - it's vastly overrated, clinging desperately to the glories of the 80s and 90s and is frankly a joke.
