Re: I can't stop itching!! It's driving me INSANE!Second gen ones don't really, they might do on the first few doses but it will be mild and will pass.(Original post by Airfairy)
I've never taken antihistamines before, but I've heard they make you really drowsy? Am I okay to take these in the morning, do they make non-drowsy ones? -
Re: I can't stop itching!! It's driving me INSANE!I'm not suggesting that is what you would do in an outpatient setting, I'm talking about how these medications are trialled in the first place. It's always desirable to have a control group in such settings, how else would you be able to convince somebody that your intervention actually made a difference.(Original post by Penguinsaysquack)
That's not really how it would be done..
Yes, it would be in a controlled clinical setting, but you wouldn't bother with other people being there. You aren't testing a new product, you're testing one persons reaction to it. You'd do a scratch test if you don't know the cause, or if you do and want to confirm it then introduce the allergen under the skin on one patch, and a saline solution on another, if the reaction is (considerably) more on the allergen site than the saline site then you are allergic to that thing
No need for more people than the patient to be involved

But I get your point, that is what you'd do for a new product, so we can avoid spamming this thread with our discussion now

Re: I can't stop itching!! It's driving me INSANE!We were talking about evidence based medicine, and somebody advising against anti-histamines based on anecdotal accounts.(Original post by Penguinsaysquack)

But yes, since the OP has gained benefit from antihistamines, and is seeing their GP, lets end it here.
