Re: When people say you are 'too white'..
I'm anemic and very pale so I get the "You're too white/You look sick comments" from people. I can't go to a make up counter to try and buy some foundation without the assistant on the other side insisting that I buy some foundation with some "colour".
Thanks darling, but I really don't think I'd suit the tangerine look -__- -
Re: When people say you are 'too white'..
Meh.
Skin colour is what you're born with unless you're an incredibly successful and slightly effeminate pop singer who has a penchant for plastic surgery. Or unless you have vitiligo. Not that either of those comments help OP.
Paleness is fine if you just run with it. You can't really do anything about it unless who want to get into cosmetics and regular sun bed visits...why bother? Just tell the people who say you're too pale that you're very ill and will take donations of 5£. Seriously, if you're that white you could go to clubs that have the blue light thing and freak people out by jumping out at them.
Actually that's kind of creepy. Don't do that. Just tell those guys that you don't have a problem with and to drop it already. -
Re: When people say you are 'too white'..I'd say the ill comments are much less frequent than the pale ones, I think most of the time they don't mean to cause offence but they make the association between paleness and feeling unwell, I'd just rather they didn't say it to me ;P(Original post by Dmon1Unlimited)
How often do you get the 'ill' comments compared to the 'pale' ones? While obviously being pale does not necessarily mean Ill/deficient etc I was getting the impression that people didn't know about this association of colour...(not that there has to be anything wrong, Im not bothered at all) -
Re: When people say you are 'too white'..Can I just add that being pale doesn't prevent you from having a 'rosy glow' or whatever you want to call it. People laugh when I say I'm tanned comparing the top of my forearm to theirs. Then I turn my arm over and people are like oh yeah, you really are tanned aren't you.(Original post by Dmon1Unlimited)
im not saying you are ill/deficient. yes people can have pale skin as their natural skin colour, but this association with being ill/deficient may make people think you look as such. It can (youre proof), but the association is still there (its not something that a few people just made up, its like an old wives tale), its not as if only only non-'white' people just think of this association.
if you like the way you are, dont think of what others think, assuming you are healthy
I'm so white that even when I have a tan people can't tell, but I certainly don't look ill, being pale doesn't mean your without colour. Hence the phrase 'off colour' for being ill. Ill people don't just look pale, they look washed out, they look tired, the quality of their skin changes, their hair looks brittle, lifeless etc.
I guess my point here is mostly that your argument was pretty stupid. -
Re: When people say you are 'too white'..oh sorry then(Original post by Felchingman)
Sarcasm. But I shouldn't have brought that up, I'm sorry.

Re: When people say you are 'too white'..It isn't stupid... It's pretty much the same thing as what you said. Just without anecdotal evidence(Original post by CaptainEllis)

AGAIN...people associate the paleness or being 'off colour' as you put it with being ill/deficient etc... Some people on here are evidence of this because they have been called such. This does not mean such associations are true. It's like a stereotype to some sense...
My whole point to the OP is that when people say OP is "too white" (not too pale), it may not necessarily be that literal (where being white=white skin, black=black skin), as in she should be more coloured like ethnics (hence why I said why does it have to be about race). It may be more likely that people just misunderstand saying 'pale' because there is an association with paleness and being I'll as I said above. It is not also a trait that some are quick to say is a must have trait...
But it seems you and other people cant seem to realise that I don't think paleness actually means you are ill not am I saying all pale people are ugly, rather people just associate it with illness and such
Association=/= fact, argument is perfectly valid

Re: When people say you are 'too white'..(Original post by cl_steele)
What does where i live have anything to do with this? the point i was making is that if you call a black fellow 'too black' you'll be lambasted as an evil racist no matter what your intentions were i was simply saying how racism is a two way street and should be treated as such... just because youre white doesnt mean someone cant be racist to you, if someone came up and started being an ass about how white i was i'd be damn offended and rightly so, you do that to someone of another race prepare for one god almighty **** storm so i dont really see what that has to do with my living in a village? which considering is in the London commuter belt and not especially far away from the London airports has seen its fair share of ethnic diversity...
Now call me old fashioned but isnt calling a black person a blick considered more than a little racist?
nice generalisation right there though (Y)
What nonsense! You're missing the point.
It's always Whites who tell other Whites that they're too pale. I'm Asian and I happen to find pale skin ugly, but I don't go around telling Whites that - I simply avoid dating them. I've also seen plenty of Blacks telling other Blacks that they're too dark and I see nothing wrong with it.
If a person of Race X tells a person of Race Y that a characteristic associated with their race needs to be changed, of course people will cry racism. It wouldn't matter which two races are involved.
I've noticed that Whites always love playing the 'OMG racial double standard' card. Stop it please, you're wasting your breath. -
Re: When people say you are 'too white'..I think you have the wrong idea. Usually, I hear white people telling other white people that they are pale and blacks/asians who call tell each other they are too dark.(Original post by cl_steele)

no its not always whites who say that 'what nonsense' just because you dont doesnt mean others do?
For good reason, if said white person went up to a black person and lambasted them for their colour they would be taken to court and castrated, if black/asian etc. did it well ... when was the last time you heard of someone from an ethnic minority getting buggered for it? you dont. so please dont pull this 'youre wasting your breath' bull**** their is a double standard and its evident to anyone cares to look. I dont agree with racism in any form but i fail to see why it should be more heavily frowned upon if a white fellow goes up to a black and calles him a ****** than if a black chap calles a white person a cracker, limey, honkey etc. etc. -
Re: When people say you are 'too white'..They're retards. Why listen to them?(Original post by almosttrue)
People say im pale, that I should tan and that Im 'too white'. But Im white because its my colour Im English lol. Is it not the same as me telling a black person that they are 'too black' ??
I dont get whats wrong with being pale anyway how is is unattractive its just another skin colour... -
Re: When people say you are 'too white'..Oh, so thaaaat's why cancer/HIV patients are so pale...(Original post by Spairos)
White skin (or black too, however "not tanned" I mean) means that your skin is healthy.
Nonsense. In our society, a good tan is considered healthy. -
Re: When people say you are 'too white'..You never met a 'real-tanned' girl?(Original post by Dobrzynski)
Personally I like pale girls. Fake-tanned just looks awful -
Re: When people say you are 'too white'..
Well personally I look much better with fake tan and I'm not talking about going orange. I'm talking about the type of fake tan that looks nice and natural. Depending on your complexion it seems to be much more flattering to have darker skin, it makes me look thinner and more toned. It's kinda like how black jeans are more flattering than pale blue faded jeans for instance.

Re: When people say you are 'too white'..Maybe they were not caught? just like there are MANY white people who havnt been caught. Is the argument really that if an ethnic person committed a hate crime and had been caught that the judicial system would be more lenient with them or try and keep the case low key? Plus its not really the use of racial slurs that lands people in court/jail (otherwise 1/3 of tsr community would be guilty) its when its accompanied by actions.(Original post by cl_steele)
and what point is that? this was in reply to another post other than the OP...

I have seen many ethnic people being prosecuted for racism, what first comes to my mind is not 'ohhh theres many racist white people that need to be arrested' I'm like 'thank God that buggar was caught!'
Anyways back to the issue....
Being pale is beautiful, if people come up to you and say to your face that you're pale i doubt that theres anything negative behind it, they are probably just intrigued, whereas dark skinned people tend to be called 'blick' behind their backs. If a white person came up to a rational dark skinned person and says, although rather random, 'you're sooo dark' i doubt anything would escalate from that...however it depends on the people, tone of voice ect. People are sensitive about skin tone. There are many people who love pale skin so try to ignore such comments

Re: When people say you are 'too white'..
It's usually white people that tell other white people that they're too pale. I've never seen a black person go up to a white person and say this.. and on the contrary, I've never seen a white person go up to a black person and say you're too dark. In most cases; it will be a black person that will say to another black person that he is blick. But I have never seen anyone take offense to it before.. maybe because they're in the same friendship group?

Re: When people say you are 'too white'..A girl who has a tan, but has acquired it through exposure to actual UV(Original post by Dobrzynski)
A what??
light rather than self-tanning lotion or spray tan... you know, the real thing.
Actually looks natural, healthy, and sexy.
