The morning show is always so bad, driving to school with it on never improved my mood and made me want to set the radio on fire at times. Radio one is always the best at ungodly hours on strange days, like Tuesday at 4am or something lol. The pop drivel they play at normal times isn't good, your music taste is probably just maturing.

Try 6music it has a more adult approach and generally plays better music and has (in the most part) presenters who are actually knowledgable in their fields.

Never thought i'd read 'Chris Moyles departing is a sign of dumbing down'.
I don't think it's his departure that is the sign of dumbing down. It's the person who is replacing him that indicates this.

Re: Radio 1 dumbing down for the younger audience?
I was gutted when I found out that Chris Moyles was leaving. I have been listening to Radio one since I was 14 and he was on the drive time show (that makes me feel old). I used to love going in in the morning listening to Chris Moyles and coming home in the evening listening to Scott Mills. I liked the fact that there was actually discussion (not debate about current issues but talking which was funny to listen to) rather than just music and interviews. Now they have moved Scott Mills to a time where I can't listen because I am working and Chris Moyles is going.

I honestly don't know what I am going to listen to on my way to work now (will probably still listen to radio one at drive time because while Greg James isn't as good as Scott Mills he isn't bad) but I don't think that I can stand Nick Grimshaw every morning. I don't like Radio 2 because I doesn't play the sort of music that I like and local radio doesn't tend to have the discussion I like. Generally I am just annoyed by this change I don't know what to listen to

I liked Chris Moyles, just wished he played more music. I hardly listen to the radio nowadays, listen to Capital when my car gets it but if not just connect the old iPod to the car.

I'm glad someone feels the same way as I do. Everyone I've spoken to and half the comments on YouTube, Twitter etc are thanking the Lord that Chris Moyles is leaving the breakfast show slot. I've listened to him since I was 15, waking up to the cheesy song every morning and like you coming home to Scott Mills and his hilarious team. I absolutely love the fact that listeners, such as me, can actually relate to the issues/problems that Chris Moyles and his team, Scott Mills and his team have. Okay, Chris Moyles didn't play enough music. But then the listeners always have the choice of other radio stations!

I do like Greg James and have been honoured to be a part of a feature on his show, but I really don't think he should have taken over the drive time slot. I LOVE Nick Grimshaw and glad he's got the breakfast slot, but to be honest I think it would have been sensible to have given Scott Mills the breakfast slot and then Nick Grimshaw could have his 1-4 slot.

There is always the Scott Mills Daily Podcast which is available every day to download at around 7PM. It gives out all the highlights of the show minus the music. And Chris Moyles.... guess you're just going to have to live with the fact that sadly he is going and Nick Grimshaw is replacing him.

Moyles leaving is the kick I need to leave R1. The music is almost entirely bilge, I only listen for his show - which I've been doing since he had his Saturday morning show yeeeeaaaars back. He's not to everyone's taste. That's fine. That's life. The people who made a big deal out of not liking him are just absurd, frankly. Every other Dj on the station plays by the rules and plays all the chart songs. So I'm done with it. Radio4 comedy and my own music for me now.

Radio 1 has always been "keeping up with the kids" ever since it started. This means that as you get older you eventually fall out of its target audience. It was the same when they eventually got rid of Dave Pearce and Judge Jules, people moaning about how R1 was terrible. Yet Dave Pearce and the Judge were products of the mid to late 90's, completely irrelevant to today's younger listener.

It was only a matter of time before Chris Moyles was dumped for a younger and more appropriate dj for the target demographic. It still shocks me that Pete Tong is still going yet he is probably the strongest dj they have so it stands to reason.

Pete will go eventually though, that's progress.

I was listening to radio4 comedy before I was listening to radio1 at all

The whole argument that at 'x' yrs of age you have to be listening to 'y' radio station is bizarre. Everyone has different tastes, that should be embraced. Who cares if a 47yr father of 3 listens to Radio1? If that's what he enjoys, then go for it.

I do wonder if younger people would even consider radio in the first place, maybe in the car ride to school but in general I think people around the ages of 16 prefer just mp3 players.

Nick Grimshaw is such a ****.

Won't be listening in the morning's any more (only time I did listen to Radio 1 anyway).

    6music/5live/Dermot O'Leary + Joe Wiley on Radio 2 is where it's at.

Guys, BBC Radio 5live is where it's at.

I guess it's not music radio but to be honest I've never understood the appeal of music radio.

Radio1 annoys the tits off of me, and Moyles is one of the main culprits. Dire station.
Kermode and Mayo! The best....although I never listen live but download the podcast

I feel the EXACT same. The Chris Moyles Show has been a part of my morning routine for 6 years now and the team do a great job of helping me wake up properly in a good mood. Yeah the humor is childish sometimes but thats what my brain needs in the morning when driving into work, people look at me in their cars as if they're thinking "what on earth has she got on the radio to make her laugh and smile so much as this ungodly hour of the morning?". You'd be hard pressed to find a team as great as these guys - they make talk radio seem effortless.

God knows what station Im going to end up listening to of a morning from September. Im dreading it already
