Does this look like a scam?
I've applied for a job via Gum Tree. Does this email seem legit?

    Here is their response:

    Dear Applicant,

We are glad to inform you that after careful look at your CV for the post of bar staff our company advertised, you have been shortlisted to join our new team in Birmingham. Passport /Birth Certificate/ID card (showing your right to work in the UK)
    Utility bill (showing current address)
    N.I number
Bank/Building Society/Local Post Office details (for your wages)
The Confidential Application Form (print out)

The pay rate for this position will be £10/hr. Full time and part time positions with morning and night shift to choose from, you will be paid every forth night(two weeks). The company will issue you a uniform on the induction/training day and you will be assigned to your duty roles.

Please e-mail us back the following, before the 23rd of July 2012
Your uniform size (i.e. Shirt, Trousers and Suit Jacket)

The deadline for the submission by email of your uniform sizes and £50 Ukash voucher numbers for your CRB fees will be on the 23rd of July 2012, no work placement will be offered without any of the above and you will not be eligible to come in for the two day training and induction. We are extremely very busy this period and may not be able to respond to your enquiries. A few things I am concerned about:

1.) Firstly, the email starts with 'Dear Applicant.' Shouldn't it say Dear (My Name)?
2.) I googled their phone/fax number and I cannot find the number to be associated with the All Bar One company
3.) Enhanced CRB checks are not £50. (Source: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employme...wjob/DG_195811)
    4.) 'Vetting and barring scheme'

However, their email is 'allbaronerecruitdpt@allbaronere cruitment.com' which seems legit.

Any opinions would be highly appreciated.

You have every right to be worried they should not be asking for banking details via email also you don't have to pay for them to a do an advanced CRB, beside you only need a CRB if your working with the elderly or young children.

From gumtree site - Is it a scam? Top warning signs

Request to use Ukash. Ukash is a payment service for online transactions between customers and merchant sites*and not for transactions*between private individuals who have connected through a classifieds website.* Fraudsters may request that you purchase a Ukash voucher and send the voucher number to them or an alleged "courier"*as payment for an item.* They may also set-up fake websites and email accounts that appear to be Ukash, or a well known courier company such as UPS or Federal Express as part of the deception to trick you.* Our advice is simply don't proceed with transacting with anyone that you have connected with on a classified website, where Ukash is requested as part of the transaction.* Always meet face to face to exchange cash and items.

    Report them to gumtree.

There are also spelling and grammatical errors; it's fortnight not forth night, "extremely very busy". Also, you're right about CRB prices; they're £44, not £50 (I just did one).

    Seems ilegit.

    Yes, it's a scam: http://www.411phonesearch.co.uk/0845...3-phone-number

I don't imagine any legit company would ask to be paid by Ukash, it's untraceable, mainly used to pay online casinos I think

Also normally you get the CRB form sent to you (after all you have to fill in all your details etc) and the payment is not needed till that form is sent off (in other words you can send a cheque yourself with the form, made out to the relevant people not the company you wil be working for).

And you really wouldn't need CRB checking for a bar job as others have said.

    Scam I'm afraid!

Re: Does this look like a scam?
No decent company ever asks for money from employees upfront. Anything that an employee requires to do his or her job (training, uniform, tools, etc.) should be either paid for by the company or deducted from the employee's paycheck. Any company asking for money upfront (especially before an interview!) is either very dodgy or a scam operator.

    Innit.

Fake, covered with lots of genuine sounding stuff to make it seem real.
The alarm bells ring for me when they ask you to pay fifty quid for a CRB check. Er, for bar staff? No. You don't need one and they don't cost fifty quid.

Re: Does this look like a scam?
I am in the same boat, I applied for a job on Gumtree and sent my CV.

The next day, I got an email from the Rayner Financial Group telling me my CV was being 'considered' and they sent some additional information about the position and a very basic form for me to complete. This form did not have any personal or sensitive information on it, so I completed it and emailed it back (I really should have researched the company but basically it was an application form, but everything on it was already on my CV, which I had previously sent them, so I filled it in anyway).

Within 5 minutes they offered me the position and sent through some other forms for me to complete...this time there was a form for my bank account information. I didn't fill this in, as it was clear from here that it was a scam. This is where I stopped, deleted the emails and all the forms they had sent me. Thank God I didn't go any further, I really should have realised because I'm usually really paranoid about this sort of stuff.

I looked online and found out that they are a scam company that steal money. Will I be fine even though I didn't send off any bank/passport details?

    Thanks.

    - Ukash voucher (along with bitcoins, it's the current favoured payment method of scammers, Nigerian princes and drug traffickers)
    - £10ph working behind a bar (too good to be true)
    - Enhanced CRB check to work behind a bar - not needed, because you're not going to be working with children or vulnerable adults.

    It's a scam.

Re: Does this look like a scam?
I just got this email yesterday claiming to offer me a job in Leicester and luckly I searched the name of the hotel they were claiming to be and emailed the email address they had on their website which was very different to the one which I received the "job offer" from.
They told me to report it to Action Fraud so hopefully no one else will have to deal with this.
