G4S messed up!
So sitting down watching the channel 4 news, they report how G4S has failed to meet the demand for required security and that 4000 troops have been taken off leave and other duties to cover the short fall of G4S. That's not the worse part in my opinion. The icing on the cake is that G4S has admitted to failing to vet many people properly, so many were told they failed vetting (myself included). I did find it strange that aged 28 and having never failed a police check (due to working in the care field) and have never failed a reference check in my life... That I was emailed that I failed vetting with no explanation :| I was told I could dispute this, which I tried to do, but got no response!
I had often questioned how G4S could possibly get so many people vetted, trained and ready to start in a short time... I guess they couldn't

Re: G4S messed up!My mate works for them. And they rejected me for a job! They shouldn't reject people so readily if they have so many vacancies! Ridiculous!(Original post by BexiG)

That's what I'm saying too! They have rejected people for no reason (ok some may have had convictions etc that would cause a rejection) but many have been rejected through vetting errors. If these errors weren't made then they might not have made such a shamble of being 4000 security officers down!(Original post by rock_climber86)

I've had dealings with G4S before and let me tell you... I've a few stories!
I used to work for Rock Steady (before they were taken over by G4S) so I know the in's and out's, etc.

Privatisation fails? Shock horror! -
Re: G4S messed up!The issue runs deeper than the problems you are describing. For me, the main worry is some of the people they HAVE employed. One whistleblower has stated how employees were falling asleep during training, listening to music, and then also failed to detect a variety of weapons or bombs despite having been trained at x-ray and detection.(Original post by BexiG)

I agree with you, since starting this thread I've been reading more into it and also remember my own training which was filled with mostly 18 year olds who have never worked before. No disrespect to young people, but if the security checks are going to be mainly done by people who weren't paying attention during training and have no experience of what a 12 shift feels like working full time... I personally don't want to be near the olympics if these are the people checking for weapons and explosives!!(Original post by aliphatic)

I came out of training feeling very uneasy and was in two minds about the whole thing. Yes I'm pissed off I failed vetting for some unknown reason and that G4S are messing up big time... But I'm starting to feel like I dodged a bullet.

i'm avoiding olympics too i think...scary that the olympic security team will consist of a lot of chavs/rudebois fresh out of school!
And the government paid tem how much? £280million? And this is the best they could come up with? What an outrageous waste of public money!

Re: G4S messed up!
110,000 Applications Received!
50,000 Interviews
4,000 Employed..
They have had Just over 2 years to work everything out and employ enough people for the Olympic security.
People dealing drugs in the Training centres.. These security staff will probably accept Drugs from a terrorist if they let them through with a BOMB!
I'm not trying to doubt London's people. but Common.. as the guy above said, its mostly people who are going to be 18-19 that usually hang out on street corners dealing drugs and smoking some puff.
with absolutely NO Experience apart from a few days on a course.. if something was to happen these guys will have no CLUE on what to do.
I read about a test subject had a 9mm in his sock! and it wasn't detected.
all you need is 50 or so people to carry ONE! bullet each.. and you got yourself a Gun and 50 bullets in the Olympic stadium.
God help us if there is a attack on the Olympics.
We will become the biggest failure of a country.
And it's not going to be like 9/11 were they didn't have 2 years to prepare for security and shiz.
We are probably being laughed at by Bin Laden in his Seabed Grave.
to the people that live in London near Stratford! GO ON HOLIDAY FOR THE OLYMPIC WEEK!
oh and Amazing Media Black-out right?
I'll be in Spain during the Olympics.
See ya! -

Re: G4S messed up!I was hoping to but I wasn't allowed to because I am slightly short-sighted and I couldn't read the letters off of the wall. I had an eyetest afterward and tried to arrange another interview but my glasses didn't arrivei n time for the interview so I was unable to try again.(Original post by BexiG)
Are you working for them?
