Re: Quitting Smoking.Good Luck!(Original post by Green Trees)
Smoked for nearly 6 years now, 10 a day (marlboro menthols
)
Last ciggie... 18/7/12
Method...Allen Carr's easy way book!
Definetly worked for me, very surprised. Not even tempted to light one up anymore.

Re: Quitting Smoking.Keep us updated with your progress?(Original post by Iola :})
Sorry guys, I caved
Starting again 27/07/12- I still have about 12 cigs left.
I will also admit, this is a lot harder than I had initially thought.

It's good that you're planning to quit again so soon, a lot of people just assume they are smokers again and procrastinate. As long as you are determined to quit and don't give up when you crack, you'll succeed. -
Re: Quitting Smoking.Throw them away! On the last day I smoked I bought a 10 pack and smoked like 3. Then after my final cig, I threw away my lighter and cigs. I have never thrown away cigs before because I am tight lol and it was very hard but I think haveing access will easily lead back to failure.(Original post by Iola :})

I have just gone 2 weeks without one (been abroad and to young to legally buy) and never craved one. Had 3 yesterday and have been craving like mad today.
I will quit at some point. Why does smoking have to be bad for you, it is just so damn nice. -

Hello TSR,
I've decided to quit smoking because I have a smokers cough, I wheeze, I get out of breath easily, my throat often hurts and not only is this affecting my health, the amount its costing is ridiculous.
I was wondering if anyone else would want to do this, and track their progress whilst doing so?
Mine are:
Smoked for- 18 months.
Smokes- 7 Cigarettes a day.
Brand of Cigarette- Silk Cut.
Last cigarette smoked- 9pm yesterday (10/07/2012)
Method of stopping- Cold Turkey.
Good luck to anyone else doing this too!
Your smoking is supporting thousands of people who working the tobacco industry!
You are just thinking of yourself, think of the people who might loose there job because YOU stopped smoking
.

Re: Quitting Smoking.
I went from smoking about fifteen/twenty Richmond Menthol KS's a day (previously Marlboro Light's) to nothing, straight away. I was admitted into hospital with an on-going and undiagnosed problem and as soon as the Nurse mentioned that I may have an ulcer - worsened by smoking - I thought, "I'm mad, what am I doing to myself?!" and even thought the xray came back as clear, it didn't change my mind. I had been smoking steadily for about four years and on and off for around a year previous to that.
Of course, I feel better. I haven't craved a single cigarette since stopping (I'm assuming the fact I was in hospital when I did stop helped with that) and even the smell sometimes gives me the boak. I'm happier that I\my clothes don't smell and that I am saving money, aswell obviously as it being good for my health - I played in a charity football match at the weekend and the difference to my stamina was incredible. I also don't feel like such a loser for lying to my Mum about not smoking.
Just... don't get me wrong, I enjoyed smoking at the time and I have no opinions on people who do now that I'm a non-smoker... but this is probably one of the very best things I've ever done for myself.
It's been just over a month. -
Re: Quitting Smoking.
Smoked 6 years,
Mostly smoked Lambert & Butler Silvers, when i couldn't get them, lucky strikes, marlboro's, pine lights, 88's, whatever the local poison
amount smoked: Varied, typically 20 a day, more so in other countries where is is cheaper, in Asia a 20 deck is about $0.50 U.S so i found myself smoking 60 a day.
Last cigarette smoked was ..i dunno early hours of the morning Monday 9th, like ... 1 am ..2 am or something before i went to bed.
Just went cold turkey what i have found very strange is i have these cravings for a cigarette, but the thought of actually smoking again makes me feel uncomfortable almost sick, i think its because everyone else in my family smokes, in just 2 weeks my coughing has stopped and i don't wake up with a lb of phlegm in my throat wheezing, yet all i see is them coughing and spluttering, breathing just sounds uncomfortable for them.
I quit smoking once before, for 6-7 months, people say the hardest part is the first few days, i disagree the hardest part is after the first week and lasts forever, because its after that first week you think you've quit, a lot of the negatives of smoking have started to alleviate, you can breath properly, your fingers aren't yellow and your not coughing every two minutes, you forget the bad things about smoking whist still craving a cigarette a recalling the satisfaction of feeding your addiction.
Keep strong. -
Re: Quitting Smoking.Mate just read it, trust me once you've read it you will realise smoking is not enjoyable. You should not be afraid of success!(Original post by lbsf1)

Re: Quitting Smoking.
I was just wondering when you cross the line from 'casual smoker' to 'addicted.'
I took up smoking during exam time, and smoked regularly for about a month and a half. Anywhere from 1 to 10 cigarettes a day, but it averaged 5.
Now it's the summer and I smoke 5-10 a day every other weekend when I visit my boyfriend since I can't smoke at home. I don't have to but I like to, and we're drinking almost every night and I generally want to smoke when I'm drunk.
Since I started smoking to 'calm me down' during exams and I enjoy doing it, I sometimes want to smoke now when I'm stressed, which I have been quite a lot recently!
Would you recommend I stop smoking altogether? I don't want to get addicted so that I have to smoke many every single day, but I do enjoy a casual cigarette. If I had one every few days, social smoking, or when I was out and drunk, would that be 'fine'? -
Re: Quitting Smoking.Being a social smoker is definitely better than being a regular. But of course, the best is to not smoke at all. And I think the best way to stop smoking is to do it cold turkey. Best not to switch to nicotine gums and patches, because in any case, that nicotine addiction will never really go away.(Original post by Chewyy)

I myself am trying to stop smoking. Been smoking for the past 7 years. I used to be a pack-a-day smoker, but lately a pack of 20s can last me 3-4 days. I've only decided to stop last Monday. 2 days in and I had a relapse. Took a few sticks from my mates lol. Better than having to buy a pack for yourself I'd say
Decided to stop again last Friday, and I managed to last until last night! My cravings hit the roof! Bought a 20-pack and only smoked one. Hopefully this pack of 20s would last me 20 days, or more

Re: Quitting Smoking.
NRT does work, its not a case of take it whenever you want a fag, which is the reason that everyone fails using them, this will instead prolong nicotine levels. Instead you have a set amount to take and constantly taper off them so your body has time to get used to the lowering nicotine levels, like methadone for opiate addiction. If you go cold turkey, you will quickly get symptoms such as headaches, irritability, inability to concentrate, sweats, very deep sleeping (once you can get asleep) and probably more. Plus the habit of it will get you buying cigs or asking for one without fully realising what you are doing. I nearly crashed twice on the motorway due to an unknown inability to concentrate before handing it over to a mate!
But hey it's expensive, if you do try it, Wilkinson sells the cheapest stuff and make sure to use the taper down method, not just to suppress cravings whenever they appear. Nicotine is still habit forming and you can feed an addiction with them if you don't take them at set rates. Oh and get the correct dosage, 4mg is a mule kick to the throat if you are used to 10 a day, 2mg is the best. Read the little book aswell if you get the chewwies/lozenges as you don't suck/chew them. You won't get a nicci rush from them as I believe its from carbon dioxide
Good luck! Tried every method and found cold turkey had a ridiculously high failure rate, had about 10 attempts to quit that way, all failed. But found the best way, tapering down the amount of fags you have until a quit date, whereby I started NRT and tapered down until I was finally off
