Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?True but girls rule the 'How to' section. I'm tempted to do youtube videos after a while, not really in it for the money but I would be interested to see how much they pay. I just want to take part in the youtube community.(Original post by Bellissima)
hmm i don't watch them so i don't know, i meant in the vlogging/comedy/entertainment section... all the top youtubers in those genres are guys apart from smaller successful ones.. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year? They get plenty of views and have a lot of subscribers. You may not think much of their content (and neither do I), but believe me, it can be very lucrative(Original post by Bellissima)
i wouldn't call that success as a youtuber... i would call it success at showing off your body...
ALSO there are these boring guy vloggers that are good looking that have massive teen fanbase... occaisionally good stuff but they are popular for their looks.
Obviously it's all dependent on the subjective definition of 'success', but don't underestimate the power of boobs

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?Like hotforwords and hannah minx? Yea... they're a bit weird. They suck too.(Original post by Bellissima)

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?success = lots of views, lots of subscribers, attention and $$$. much easier to do if you're female with a decent pair of breasts.(Original post by Bellissima)

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?I've not really come across many handsome male vloggers lol. Maybe its cos I'm straight but I can tell when a guy looks 'hot'.(Original post by Bellissima)

One of the guys I watch is Jim Chapman, most of his videos are just common sense but I just enjoy the fact there's a guy in the How to section. Most of his videos are just watched by girls and I think he knows this so he plays his cards right. One of his recent videos on his second [vlog] channel had his brother shirtless purely for eye candy and he did a giveaway claiming the prize was unisex when in fact they looked a little girlyish imo and he chose a girl in the end as well. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?
She earns it through youtube Ad revenue, and view revenue. Basically every 1000 views she gets she gets roughly $2 unless she is contracted with someone. There are youtube people who make gaming videos who make even more than that but leaving their contractors (machinima or maker studios) there are a few more don't know the names with the greater deal. Generally the contractors provide a stable wage over the $2 per 1000 views option though.

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year? Its more about the face and general slim body I think. ijustine looks stunning!(Original post by sil3nt_cha0s)

I find it funny when youtubers play to their strengths and have thumbnails of sexually appealing pictures of themselves. Oh I just thought of one guy who does this...daveywavey. He's a nice guy and has a good body, he's gay and my god does he know how to work his audience lol -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year? They pay less than minimum wage per 1000 views you get and you need to be partnered first which generally means you need roughly 1000 subscribers. Its not a quick deal(Original post by Luxray)

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?OMG I love communitychannel but I hope she's alright, the poor soul must be having some identity crisis or something. She hasn't made a video in so long(Original post by chickenonsteroids)

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?Ah. That makes sense. Isn't that kind of sad though? Or is that a very feminist thought? At least in stand up comedy, the women who do get some kind of success aren't relying only on feminine sexiness.(Original post by jumpingjesusholycow)
It's the same situation in stand up comedy. Whilst there are a modicum of successful female comedians, the lack of balance is down to the fact that female audiences prefer to have male performers rather than form an act themselves. Females have to want to be on YouTube before there can be any successful female YouTubers to speak of.
Ew. My mind is twisted. Getting past that quite graphic image of young girls drooling both ways after Brandon Hardesty, could anyone give me the names of guy youtubers?(Original post by Luxray)
It isnt sexist its just the way life is, same as young girls watching the young male youtubers cos they want them as their boyfriend.
Wow. That actually sounds really really bad. Edit button? No, this is stream of consciousness hardcore comment guerilla attack on innocents. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?well it would be a nice supplmentary income and yeah I hard about the suscriber/viewers requirement.(Original post by TheKieranC)

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?yeah depending you have a big enough view count. If not, you're gonna end up claiming the 50 quid every 6 months (50 pound is the minimum you can take out of adsense)(Original post by Luxray)
well it would be a nice supplmentary income and yeah I hard about the suscriber/viewers requirement. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year? One person I watch is Jim Chapman, the guys gets so many girls watching him. He got some success through his gf who is a big time beauty channel (pixiwoo2, oh and his sisters are pixiwoo). So you can see where his audience stumbled across him.(Original post by JessaminePoppy)

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?if you are interested in the How To section check out jimmybobba (jim chapman)... he is for guys but actually the only person i watch in that kind of genre! really good...(Original post by Luxray)

that is mainly because more girls LOOK for how to, for example make up etc. there is a bigger market... and there are less male make up artists/hair stylists/gurus on yt (though there are a few popular male hair stylists) -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?not sure if you saw my edit but there are def guys on there that take advantage of their good looks and tweens for subscribers... (have a cousin who's avid follower of some of them)... some of the videos i've seen of them are okay but they 100% would not get that if they were average or less.(Original post by jumpingjesusholycow)

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?Meh, I just put it down to the fact that men and women aren't the same. And expecting them to be for the sake of equality is pointless. It is a shame I suppose in that diversity is always good for keeping things fresh and upping competition and quality, but opportunities are open to everyone. I personally would like to see more fully fleshed out female comedians, and I don't mean Sarah Milican bleeting on about being fat and eating chocolate. I mean genuine female comics who's material isn't entirely centred around the fact that they have a vagina. Tina Fey comes to mind as one of the better one's but I think she's severly over-rated.(Original post by JessaminePoppy)

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?Haha nah, I just watch youtube in preference to TV these days so have my favourites who I follow. I'm actually going off Jenna - I think she was better a little while ago - but she's still one I subscribe to.(Original post by Luxray)
Someone's a stalker... haha I watch them too. Her house looks really nice but I think she deserves that kind of money cos of the amount of views she gets and her videos are pretty funny. On the other hand arent houses in America cheaper than in England?
I think houses are cheaper in America, yeah. But still, it's pretty snazzy especially given I remember in the early days of her youtubing she was constantly saying she was broke. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?I just mentioned him in a post before lol. I dont think he is actually that good, maybe its because I already know most of the stuff he is talking about. I do like that he provides his opinion on products which I havent tried so obviously dont know about but on the other hand he gets a lot of the stuff given to him by the companies and as much as he gives an 'honest' view, I firmly believe he must be swayed by some companies.(Original post by Bellissima)

Only male makeup artisit i know is gossmakeup, I think he is great. I really respect the fact he doesnt accept companies sending him samples. He mentioned in one video that there is a dark side of youtube not many of us know about...dun dun dun.
edit: I do like Jim's brothers videos (his entire family is on youtube lol). They do gym/health related videos and are really good.Last edited by Luxray; 11-07-2012 at 21:28.
