Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?really? i didn't know that.. he always seems quite genuine...(Original post by Luxray)
I like him but kinda dislike him a little. I think its because he must get swayed by the companies that give him products, and that he doesnt mention that some of the links he provides in his description are actually affiliate links. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?I will refrain from answering the start of your question, as it seems to exude more of opinion than solid fact.(Original post by TheKieranC)
Dude, she's paid for being entertaining and is not paid a staple nor regular wage. She relies on herself. She's an entrepeneur. I don't believe Bob Diamond or any of these pop artists deserve the money they're getting but he was sitting on a 20 mill bonus with a 2 mill stable income that he was always gonna get. Stop being so pedantic.
As to Bob Diamond, personally I would wholly defend the man. You have to be incredibly hardworking, dilligent and above all intelligent to go anywhere in banking and it is a true credit to him that he achieved his former position.
Just as a sign of Diamond's successes, you know you have been amazing when after such a tremendous scandal such as the libor rates, when you would think that speculators lose confidence, shareholders actually asked for him to stay.
So, as to your latter statement, I really do struggle to see how you can compare him with pop artists. A person who has studied their whole lives and worked 15 hour shifts deserves such extraordinary sums, although I think the Time mentioned today that he declined the £20 million bonuses.
Indeed
"Mr Diamond agreed to waive all unvested deferred bonus awards, which Mr Agius said could have been worth £20 million." - The TimesLast edited by cyfer; 11-07-2012 at 21:50. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?I agree. She definitely doesn't have the kind of humor most Brits would appreciate.(Original post by Wilfred Little)
Jenna Marbles is not funny at all, she's just silly and doesn't care what people think, but not funny.
I haven't laughed at one of her videos. Someone post one that you think is funny. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?Yeah they all masked by those sort of 'bitly' short version links and when you click on them them, and read the URL it has like affiliate related codes in it which clearly mean he is getting money off it. But he doesnt mention it at all. I don't mind that he is trying to make an income but I wish he would be more open about it and accept that he must be getting a little swayed by some companies.(Original post by Bellissima)
really? i didn't know that.. he always seems quite genuine... -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?To be honest it feels like everyone's doing that these days(Original post by Bellissima)
they just stand in front of the camera, don't really say anything of interest and LITERALLY 50-60% of their videos are them begging for likes/faves/subs and selling tshirts...
haha i feel honoured!
For some reason every YouTube 'personality' with even a modicum of subscribers feels the need to flog their crappy merchandise consisting of a white teeshirt and their username with some 'ironic' phrase on it. The overuse of the word "awesome" is starting to grind on me too when it comes to YouTube personalities -_- I should probably make a thread about this lol
And you should. Not even my mum gets a post it note

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?Ok then. KSIolajidebt is a youtuber, he said in a recent video that it takes him between 4 and 10 hours to make ONE 5 minute video.(Original post by cyfer)
They are only paid that much because it is marketably viable to do so. The same with footballers. Vlogging, just like kicking an inflatable ball on grass doesn't require mental dexterity of any great kind nor does it take the amount of hard work

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?I actually like Miranda Hart, mainly because she's not nearly as obnoxious as other comedians. Then again, she's more the kind of comic that's funny for her delivery as opposed to her actual content in much the same way as Andy Parsons. She plays the 'slightly-awkward-and-large-sized-woman' very well without being deplorably self-deprecating beyond reason. So yeah, amiable and well balanced is how I'd rate her. Her sitcom was also quite nice. How about yourself?(Original post by JessaminePoppy)
I think that happens to a lot of female funny people. Sarah Silverman isn't too vagina-ey with her stand up if you see what I mean...What do you think about Miranda Hart?
EDIT: With regard to Sarah Silverman, I'm sorry. Human beings are NOT supposed to sound that nasally. She sounds like one of those high frequency noise-speakers used to stop teenagers loitering. Honestly, how can anyone stand to listen to that for any prolonged period of time I have no idea.Last edited by jumpingjesusholycow; 11-07-2012 at 22:03. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?Agreed. It takes me the same. (usually around 6 hours for a 4 minute video depending on how many edits and effects).(Original post by manchesterunited15)

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?I think part of it is that female comedians simply aren't as funny. People like Sarah Millican and Jo Brand whose only jokes are about being stupid (SM), fat (JB) or a woman (both) aren't funny at all.(Original post by jumpingjesusholycow)
I'm with Luxray on this one. The opportunity to become a YouTuber is plenty open to women and many have become successful like MisAlissa15 and Tyrannosauruslexxx. It's just that generally speaking, women like to be passive consumers of YouTube as opposed to active creators. It's the same situation in stand up comedy. Whilst there are a modicum of successful female comedians, the lack of balance is down to the fact that female audiences prefer to have male performers rather than form an act themselves. Females have to want to be on YouTube before there can be any successful female YouTubers to speak of. -

Mind if I message you with some questions about making videos pal?

Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?Aaahh the advice stuff is moot for me being that I'm female. I learn more from the female beauty gurus (obviously, haha!). I just find him watchable for some reason. It's that intrinsic human condition of being ridiculously nosy, and you get a peek into someone else's life.(Original post by Luxray)
Yeah Jim I kind of like him but also dislike him. He does offer some good advice (not really useful for me since I know most of it already, not trying to brag, his advice is obviously going to help others) but I don't know, there's something I just don't seem to like. It's not jealousy. I do watch a lot of his videos.
Also, your affiliate link point - anyone with half a brain can suss out that they are affiliate links and decline to use them if they so wish. Maybe he should have a disclaimer somewhere about them, but tbh given youtube is his business I don't see the issue him using them. -
Re: JennaMarbles on $709k per year?On Mock the Week poor old Andy gets out shined every time. It took me a while to realise why it was I didn't laugh for him.(Original post by jumpingjesusholycow)
Andy Parsons. So yeah, amiable and well balanced is how I'd rate her. Her sitcom was also quite nice. How about yourself?
Anyway.. yeah I think "Miranda" the sitcom is alright. There are some really good scenes, but sometimes I think there are aspects that take away from the funniness and are more cringey than funny. It's been a while since I saw it so I cannot back these opinions with solid and fluffy examples, but it is an opinion soo..
It reminds me a lot of "Not Going Out" for some reason...Maybe because set-wise they seem to have a similar budget. -

I'm more than willing to help out anyone thinking of getting into videos. We really need more diversity. It's getting way too much of a 'celebrity atmosphere' these days.

I know exactly what you mean. It had that sort of low-to-mid range BBC budget that seems to be reserved for trial sitcoms. I'd love to see them bring it back. It was just a nice sitcom, not in your face and not obnoxiously pandering to a specific audience.
Don't lie mate. You were having Mungcho and aloo(Original post by Luxray)
