    Strange chest pain
I've been having this weird chest pain and I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. It's going to be a little while for me to be re-registered with the GP, so I'm trying to get some answers in the mean time.

It's cropped up occassionally, with with either several weeks or months between times. It always radiates from the same spot, just under my boob, and I can feel a particularly sore spot, not sure whether it's on my rib or on the muscle on the rib, but when I touch this area it's particularly bad.

It hurts especially when I am lying down or sitting, or try to move suddenly, and reaches it's peak when I breath in. Most of the time it's painful but bearable, and lasts a few hours, with just one of the episodes causing any real distress.

My mum seems to think it could just be a stitch or indigestion, or possibly some trapped wind. I'm not so sure and I'm worried, but then I don't want to bother the doctor if it's not a big deal.

    Any one have any ideas?

Unless you are really unlucky - it will not be your heart - you are too young - it is more than likely your intercostal muscles - but you know if you are worried - get registered with your GP etc.

Can you exercise; do you get pain down the left arm.... is it different when you breathe in as opposed to breathe out...

Your mum is right - I am guessing you are around 16; 17 ; 18. Most GPs like to build up a relationship with their patients - it makes it easier for when you come to them with other stuff... but as they always say on here - we are not with you and cannot make a diagnosis - but as I said I don't think you have anything to worry about

Sounds like pre-cordial catch syndrome. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about!

Wow that sounds exactly like it! Thanks. Although it does last longer than minutes. I shall look in to this more.

I can't tell exactly what you've got, but I would have thought if it was anything dangerous like a heart attack, you'd know about it by now.

I get chest pains quite often and I don't think anything's wrong, it always resolves itself. It sounds stupid, but heartburn is actually quite a likely cause!

Yes, I also get pre-cordial catch syndrome, as do lots of people in our age group. Try not to Google your symptoms, heart attacks and such come up the most simply because that's the thing most other people click on. It took me ages to figure out what it was via the Internet.

Thanks for reply and reassurance, I'm just a panicker. I'm 19 and and have no other issues apart from this. I'm getting registered with GP asap.

It could be anxiety. Or at least anxiety about what it is could be making it worse. I often get really weird sensations in my chest, and I am 99% sure it's psychosomatic.
See a GP anyway. At least then they can tell you it's nothing to worry about and then you can move on and try to forget about it.
