    Art History Career Options
I'm thinking of doing an art history degree at university, purely on the fact that I adore art. However, I'm unsure of the job prospects of an art history graduate and I'm worried that I'll end up wasting money and 3 years doing a degree that won't benefit me. Does anyone know of the career options for an art history graduate? - it would be a huge help! thanks

I'm going into my A2 year in September and I've been considering doing an Art History degree but I thought that I might prefer Art and Design or Fine Art (to do something practical really). I'm trying to find a course that incorporates some form of Art History though as I find it fascinating
I'm also doing an Extended Project on college based around the Renaissance period.
I'd love to do an Art History degree but I'm scared I might find it not for me, or lose interest so I'm sticking with Art.
I think it would be great to have Art History knowledge if you're considering teaching Art though, I am and I'd love to be able to throw artists and movements at my students to research like my last Art teacher did for us
...then again I guess if it's Fine Art you'd want to teach, for example, I don't know if schools/colleges would prefer you to have a degree in that opposed to History... or it might not matter! I'm throwing out these statements and I want to know the answers too
Good luck deciding what you want to do and finding some answers, hopefully someone else can be more help than I can

There are a few things that you must consider... Firstly, do you simply like doing Art or do you like History of Art as a discipline. If you see it as a discipline then you will start to understand its benefit. Secondly, The subject broadens your visual sensitivity and writing/analysis skills which are helpful for countless numbers of jobs. Art Gallery Curatorship, Art dealership, Art Critic, English heritage, these are the obvious jobs you would be highly qualified to do... However, if you are intending to go to a competitive university then merely acquiring a degree from a top uni in Art History, can help you gain a job in not only anything visually orientated, but also journalism, fashion, law, even finance.
    Hope that was helpful

Hi there! I did my undergraduate degree in art history and I really enjoyed it. I think its a good degree to do because it equips you with so many different skills. What I would say though, is start volunteering in arts related organisations/museums (if this is what you want to do when you finish) as soon as possible, because a lot of places want you to have A LOT of experience!! But if you start early knowing what you want, then it will pay off!

please dont pay £9000 A year, please i beg you

Do you adore art enough to not regret having done a unemployable degree than do so

    otherwise i suggest business studies

or even better ASyour a fan of art
