    Re: Happiness or Success?
success brings happiness. Happiness brings success. No ?

If I am successful at something won't this bring me happiness due to be able to do something.
If I am happy won't this mean I am more passionate about what I do and success will be the result.

Personally Im more inclined to happiness but thats just the optimist in me. Plus I tend not to realise my successes ? Other people do :dontknow:

I don't really think they need to be mutually exclusive, you can do things like set more time aside for studying but also be self-sacrificing in social situations..? And girls can be into driven, self-satisfied guys, but that doesnt mean you have to make yourself one to find girls. Just find a girl that likes you and chances are itll be because she has traits that you also like

Happiness is more important for me than success. What should I do with success without happiness? there are people who are success, but not happy. Success makes not happy everyone. If I have to decide me between success and happiness, I would choose happiness.

The question is: what is successful? everyone has an other idea about that. Success for me is when you did what you don't expected. If you expected anything for yourself and it will not work, then you are so much disappointed. But if you have success and no expectations before, you will so much happier. In other words: unexpected success makes happier than expected success. Look at olympia! which athletes are the happiest ones? they who didn't expect success before. I think they are good examples for my statement.

Just look at how many successful people there are who are inwardly very unhappy. You know the type: has a good job, nice car, nice house, married with three kids. When you study them enough you'll notice that they'll smile a few times but they'll never really laugh.

Happiness every time. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. Being nice often leads to happiness.

Though like it's been said, you can definitely have both.

In my head; I'm thinking that you can't measure happiness by false measures.
And I think that if you go the right way and succeed in life you will end up happy.

But ultimately, my happiness will be looking back ready for death to take me & not regretting of much done in the past. So live it well and live it once lol!

False dichotomy; I think it rather perverse that success has come to invariably refer to monetary gain - on any half-sensible consideration success is self-defined, and is usually achieved in tandem, rather in opposition to, happiness. The two should dovetail.

In my book, happiness = success.

It seems that when you are a generally happy person then things fall in to place around you.

What's that saying.. when you smile, the world smiles with you.

I would like to be successful, but there would be no point in choosing it if I wouldn't be happy.

I try and balance it. I try and see 'success' (Academic, Musical, Sporting, etc.) as a requirement. At the same time you can't have success without taking care of your mind and body, so I factor in social stuff and personal time (gaming, reading, whatever) as a requirement too. It seems to be going well, and I'm happy at the moment, so that's good

    Re: Happiness or Success?
I want to be successful, but I personally lean my life towards happiness. They are not mutually exclusive though.
It really depends on the situation. Sometimes I know I need to make a decision that is important for my future, and allowing myself to be successful, but what I choose depends HOW much it will affect my happiness. If it's something that will make me very unhappy, it's likely that I will find another way to be successful, because happiness and enjoying my life is just more important.

I can be unsuccessful and happy, as well as successful and happy. But I don't see the point in being successful and unhappy.
