If weren't accepted at Cambridge, where do you think you have ended up now?
Please name 4 universities.
I'd like to know which universities that UK's smartest students would rather be, if they weren't lucky to get an offer from Cambridge.
write down the university name if it's not included in the the given choices, as the choices given by this thread is limited only to 16.
Thank you.

Re: If weren't accepted at Cambridge, where do you think you have ended up now? That is correct. But this is just a hypothetical question. Say, you can apply to both and you got turned down by Cambridge, where do you think you'll end up?(Original post by ArounaF)
You can't apply to both Oxford and Cambridge.
You can name up to 4 universities, but list them down in order of your preference. Thank you.

Re: If weren't accepted at Cambridge, where do you think you have ended up now?I'm actually trying to see whether the A-Levels reported by HEICF has any bearing or not. I wouldn't expect a large samples, but the result of this would have somehow tell a story, since I know many Cambridge students/aspirants lurk on here.(Original post by kka25)
Once you are done with this parade of vanity, tell us what's the outcome ye? -

This part of your post reflects the otherwise or gave me the wrong impression:
Lucky? What do you mean by that? It is as if it's Godsent if they entered it.(Original post by Mr. Roxas)

If you wish to talk about 'samples'; how do you define 'smartest students'? AAA students? If they aren't 'lucky' as you put it, and chose other Unis, so? What's the conclusion or the significance of the research? What's the contribution?
So, if they don't telly with the HEICF? What are you going to deduce? Don't believe in the HEICF? What's the significance here? How does it help you and your research? -
Re: If weren't accepted at Cambridge, where do you think you have ended up now?
I don't understand why you're so cynical on this. Are you from Cambridge?
Cambridge is an extremely selective university, so much so, that even students with impeccable credential don't get an offer.
Cambridge does not receive as many applicants as some unis do. The reason why I think that was so, is because the applicants are self-selective -- only the ones who think have the chances were applying. The vast majority of the applicants rejected are also very smart. They just didn't get "lucky" that's why they weren't picked. That is not to say the ones admitted are less smart. Not at all. I am only saying that there's an oversupply of worthy applicants that Cambridge can accommodate.
Now, as to why I asked, I'm curious. I'm curious what universities that the Cambridge students think are peers of their own university. I don't think there's anything bad about that, is there??? -
Re: If weren't accepted at Cambridge, where do you think you have ended up now?It was originally listed, but when my connection faltered, I rewrote/rechecked the uni names, then I sent it before I realized Durham was omitted/erased. Sorry about that. I feel Durham would score quite high on this survey.(Original post by mc1000)
Kudos for omitting Durham from the list; let them know their place. -
Re: If weren't accepted at Cambridge, where do you think you have ended up now?Of course. This your 'research' isn't it? Inquiry. It's normal for people ask these sort of questions if you want to do research; what's your motivation behind all of these? what's the issue? etc. Or is it for parading one's own accomplishment? Is it to parade one's own alumni? Is it to justify something else? Is it for bla bla bla? What's the outcome? What would you get? What's the contribution to you or us?(Original post by Mr. Roxas)

So, if they don't end up at Cambridge and chose other Unis, so? Are you going to deduce now those Unis are just 2nd rate to Cambridge? Or equivalent to it? How so? What would be the findings? How does it help you or us even?
You're curious; fine. That's honorable. All scientist are curious to find something; that's the motivation - but why the curiosity/motivation on the topic? So, if these 'smart students' select other Unis, then what? What's the conclusion? Why are you curious to know from these samples which you've not clarified?
Nothing wrong with asking; is just that I think people would want to know your intention really. If you could answer all the/their questions, then I think, people would be more than eager to answer your research questions as well : )Last edited by kka25; 12-07-2012 at 07:23. -

Re: If weren't accepted at Cambridge, where do you think you have ended up now?Yep. What's your point? It's hardly a **** university, and I'm not exactly comparing it to Oxbridge.(Original post by Hackett)

Re: If weren't accepted at Cambridge, where do you think you have ended up now?Its delusions - amongst its staff, students and applicants - that it is the 'third Oxbridge'. It isn't, and it pisses me off no-end when people automatically associate Durham as some kind of automatic Oxbridge alternative.(Original post by Hackett)
Why the hate against Durham then?
I know various people who went there. Three years ago they were all decent, down-to-earth people. Now they're all total self-righteous bellends, impacted by all the idiotic public school types who didn't make it into Oxbridge.
It isn't even in the top 10 for research; and for measures of both research and teaching, it's in the same kind of league as Loughborough - along with about 35 lower-ranked universities. -
Re: If weren't accepted at Cambridge, where do you think you have ended up now?
This thread seems utterly pointless. As many have said before, you can't apply to both Oxford and Cambridge and you can get accepted into one and still be rejected from another of your choices. What's with the sense of entitlement?
If I fail my conditions for Oxford this year (most likely), my insurance is Manchester.
