    Paying halls deposit
Hey guys, so I want to book a flat through Unite with a friend and they've asked us to pay the room deposit via phone. I've never heard of such thing, I've paid stuff online but on a website, not via phone. Has anybody been in this position? If it's safe, how does it work exactly?
    Thanks

You speak with the estate agent. They'll ask you your card number, expiry date and 3-digit CV2 code on the back of your card, and manually punch the numbers into their card machine (the same chip & pin type you use in shops). It's probably safer than using your card online. Although if you don't trust it, ask to go in and make the payment yourself, using your card and pin number.

Orrr if they want to set up a direct debit they'll take your bank details instead.

Thanks! paying myself was not an option since I'm not from the UK, but everything else's been helpful.
