    Why are racists obsessed?
I've observed this among many racists. They initially seem to be mere "casual racists". They'll drop the odd slur every now and again, but they don't seem particularly malicious. And yet, eventually, something seems to happen, and their views become an obsession. They can't comment on anything - even the idea of going to some place or an event - without bringing "race" into the issue. They can't talk to a stranger without just getting in that one racialist topic. It's like an infection and an addiction at the same time. They're not happy with being racist in the same way that I have political views. I leave my many views aside when I'm discussing personal issues, but the racist has to make his outlook ubiquitous. There are no limits. In the end, it's the only "important" thing on their mind.

    Thoughts?

Like leftists aren't obsessed to the point of lunacy; the only difference is racists don't tend to be as hostile as leftists.

Case in point: leftist gratuitously attacking Starkey with the intention of winning the argument via defamation.

I think it's because they have nothing better to do. They are ignorant.

Ignorant, insulting and they feel the need to bring someone down because of their colour.

What has race got to do with other things,
'oh your brown, you can't come in'
no, no one does these things so these poeple seriously need to get A LIFE.
People need to learn from history, the black and white segregation in 1913, see things like that people should learn from not try and recreate things like that.

arrghh this just annoys me, allow racist people, Im brown and dont care what people say. Judge you on your skin colour, the only being that can do that is GOD.

They are just thick really. Ignorant as Dee Leigh says.

I am white and had a word with a friend the other day because of his use of the n word which I find to be an awkward and pretty awful word when a white friend uses it, but using it like any other word, rather than saying black they use the n word, really pisses me off.

His argument is they/rappers use it so why can't I? Trying to explain it falls on deaf ears, slavery and all that, they just agreed not to say it around me anymore.

I pointed out if you are uncomfortable using a word in any place at anytime it is probably offensive. As I tried saying, what do you think would happen to you if you were to be in Brixton talking like you do.

Annoyed me anyway as you can tell. There is an offensive word for every ethnicity/race and some people like to use them through sheer laziness I think, or maybe seeking reaction or hoping for a jolly old racist chat maybe, no idea.

Coming from a %99.999 white area I cannot understand how people can develop this opinion considering %95+ know nothing but white people and white life.

Anyway, for me racists are just the negative energy I do not need around me, very draining trying to explain something to people who are clearly set in their ways, maybe better to slap them so they get the picture.

As a white why do I find racist words offensive/awkward?

Judging by the posts being negged it would seem there are a few who disagree but are scared to quote, pussies.

I know somebody who hates black people with a passion; the irony of that is that he actually had a black girlfriend

Probably because they have nothing more productive to do with their time and think the world needs to know their opinion on everything as though it's gospel or something.

Just like homophobia, sexism or disability hate, racism is normally caused because someone doesn't understand it. Then factor in newspapers/media or family/friends who might hate and you get little clusters of people who all believe the same thing.

Have to say this doesn't just affect right leaning people. Lefties can often be just as hateful and stupid! Think about some of the unions who hate pretty much anyone working in the private sector for example. You also left left leaning people who pounce upon anything remotely or could be construed as racist. These daft sods end up causing just as much trouble!

At the end of the day, haters gonna hate. The good thing is your obviously smart enough to see past the crap and form your own judgements about people based on how they act, and not who they are or where they are from.

This is because they don't understand or know the minorities involved. They have however read the Daily Mail or heard second hand how foreigners like to steal money or they are dirty (Insert other racist stereotypes here). These people then form a solid judgement about about black or foreign, once the idea is solid you have a hard time rolling it back!

Mad really how someone can form an opinion without first hand experience, no-one heard the saying "take what you read and what people say with a pinch of salt"?

I have my ideas anyway and know that racism goes both ways but I obviously only experience the white on (insert random group) slander, they should have a Big Brother type show and stick racists from all groups in one house lol.

    Re: Why are racists obsessed?
Because once you believe that one race is inferior to another, that affects your beliefs about any systems which receive input from that supposedly inferior race. If a social system is doing well then it is therefore doing it well despite being hindered by members of an inferior race, and if it is not doing well then it is not doing well in part because of being hindered by members of an inferior race. In this way, racism affects a person's entire worldview and their judgements on many social matters.

It is also understandable that a racist would air his or her opinions regularly; any opinion held strongly, which also is judged by the holder to be relevant to the matter at hand, tends to be aired. It's not a surprise that a racist would attempt to propagate his or her feelings on race, just as would any person on any matter thought important to them. The fact that the belief is held on poor grounds doesn't change that.

Yes but your a student, which makes you reasonably educated compared to the masses (Really it's true).

Go into an average council estate or chat to "Normal People". These people read papers like the Sun/Mirror and believe it as fact. THAT'S where the danger lies.

Just be very thankful that you have a good, clean and open mind to things. Your in a minority group .

Yes agree ignorance is a cause of racism but hatred is another reason as some people have a superiority complex because my skin is blah blah blah...in that sense the mind set is hard and almost impossible to change............

That is a mild exzaggeration some of these "normal people" do not have to live on so called "council estates" to read the Sun/Mirror, in fact most of them probably are not aware of the news and form their opinion from trash on TV or from their friends - sheeps flock together and all that.

Again not everyone on a council estate ascribes to the sterotype you are suggest. I used to live in one, although it was not really an estate a such, it was council run.

Ignorant people with illed informed opinion can be found anywhere so next should not over sterotype the whole council estate ho ha as Sun/Mirror readers............
