If haircuts were cheaper I would consider it!

It never occurred to me to tip at the hairdressers. I never really understood why some people get tips and other's don't. Personally I think bus drivers have a much harder job than taxi drivers, and are generally much more deserving of tips than taxi drivers.
Taxi drivers don't (threaten to) go on strike because of the Olympics.

The opposite for me actually, I just take advantage of the student discount, still costs £13 though so I think that's enough.

If it was say £4.50 at home (when I was younger, kid prices) then it was standard to tell him to keep the change.

Yeah, I usually just round it up like.
My hair costs about £9, so I usually pay with a tenner and let them keep the change. Seems customary, especially when they've done a good job.

    Taxi drivers aren't dicks.

    That's the key difference.

I would, but where I go, it's a tenner and I don't usually have much change. But if it was a random amount, then I'd give them money rounded up to the nearest fiver and let them keep the change.

It takes the hairdresser about 2 hours to re-style my hair (it's past waist length), which is usually the only reason I go, so I feel bad that they spend so long standing to it. All their prices are standardised to each style too, so long hair/time taken to style it doesn't cost me more, so I do tip in that case. If the prices were dependent on hair length/time taken to cut it, I would probably not tip, as the effort is taken into account in the price.

It's never even occurred to me to tip. Probably because I'm a poor student with no money. But seriously, I didn't even realise it was norm to tip at the hairdressers... I feel bad now.

When the shape up is particularly crisp and clean, and if I'm looking fresh to death . I'll tip em up to £2

I've never tipped a hairdresser before nor felt the need to since its a hardly done thing except a few weeks ago when my hairdresser cut my thick waist long hair really really short and spikey and did a really good job, since it was such a huge redesign and took her so much time and effort and it was so nice, I felt bad and awkward at not tipping since i only had with me the exact change, but no other time have I really wanted to tip, you don't tip a till lady at the shop if she scans your shopping well.

Unless you have a lot of shopping, she won't usually take 20-30 minutes though.

I don't tip anyone, anything... when I do IT repairs, I never get tipped. Why should other industries expect tipping?

I just pay whatever the bill comes to.

Yeah I guess, I just personally don't understand why some jobs are tipped and others arent.

I see your point, and not sure where the distinction is made - I just follow what my parents did, when I feel the person did a good job (hairdressers and waitress/waiter).

Do you only limit your tipping to hairdressers and waiters?

The only time I tip is usually when I can't be bothered to wait for the change, such happens in meter taxis. Comes to £9.70, ill give a £10 note and just say thanks, keep the change. Not because I want to tip them, just don't want to wait for the change.

Don't usually in taxis as I think the fares are high enough as it is. Hairdressers and waiters are all I can think of right now, aye.
