Re: Tipping at the hairdressers/barbers (UK)Taxi drivers don't (threaten to) go on strike because of the Olympics.(Original post by LinzyLoo)
It never occurred to me to tip at the hairdressers.
I never really understood why some people get tips and other's don't. Personally I think bus drivers have a much harder job than taxi drivers, and are generally much more deserving of tips than taxi drivers.

Re: Tipping at the hairdressers/barbers (UK)It takes the hairdresser about 2 hours to re-style my hair (it's past waist length), which is usually the only reason I go, so I feel bad that they spend so long standing to it. All their prices are standardised to each style too, so long hair/time taken to style it doesn't cost me more, so I do tip in that case. If the prices were dependent on hair length/time taken to cut it, I would probably not tip, as the effort is taken into account in the price.

I've never tipped a hairdresser before nor felt the need to since its a hardly done thing except a few weeks ago when my hairdresser cut my thick waist long hair really really short and spikey and did a really good job, since it was such a huge redesign and took her so much time and effort and it was so nice, I felt bad and awkward at not tipping since i only had with me the exact change, but no other time have I really wanted to tip, you don't tip a till lady at the shop if she scans your shopping well.

Yeah I guess, I just personally don't understand why some jobs are tipped and others arent.(Original post by rmhumphries)

Re: Tipping at the hairdressers/barbers (UK)I see your point, and not sure where the distinction is made - I just follow what my parents did, when I feel the person did a good job (hairdressers and waitress/waiter).(Original post by Kerrias)

The only time I tip is usually when I can't be bothered to wait for the change, such happens in meter taxis. Comes to £9.70, ill give a £10 note and just say thanks, keep the change. Not because I want to tip them, just don't want to wait for the change. -
Re: Tipping at the hairdressers/barbers (UK)Don't usually in taxis as I think the fares are high enough as it is. Hairdressers and waiters are all I can think of right now, aye.(Original post by Anon420)
