    Chemical engineers in defence
I'm going to be studying chemical engineering in October and I wondered if there were many opportunities for chemical engineers in the defence industry?

I have been looking around and it seems a lot of summer placements in the UK for defence companies seem to be geared towards software/systems and mechanical engineering.

Have a look at DSTL. The MoD certainly employ chemical engineers, getting a summer placement in that specific area might be more difficult to source though.

Thanks I hadn't heard of them before. Apparently they do offer summer placements but there are none listed currently. I will have to look and see if any get offered for next summer!

I'd try and give their recruitment/ HR department a ring, see what timescales they offer their work experience placements on, who they consider, what sort of projects you might be offered to work on. I'd hazard a guess that recruitment happens between October and February for Summer placements, but it pays to be informed in this case.
