Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedWell they haven't defined it yet, but hopefully thats what they meant(Original post by hslt)
You can take a lot of food in, excessive means taking in 100s of packets of crisps that you're clearly not taking in just to eat.
They just don't want to turn the olympics into a market stall - fair enough really. -
Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedCouldn't possibly afford such a risk, what if the terrorists load up on cola and swallow a mentos when the queen walks by?(Original post by Iqbal007)
"excessive amounts of food"
Olympic tickets are expensive for many of us ordinary Londoners, at least we should the right to bring our own food to keep ourselves full, without being forced to pay for food which'll be kind of expensive and limited to crap

Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedI don't see a problem with any of these items being banned/restricted. Would you rather they were laxer with security and something happens, or they act pretty strictly and nothing happens?(Original post by im so academic)
The list includes:
*Objects/clothing bearing political statements
*More than 100ml of liquid
*Excessive amounts of food
*Balls
*Rackets
*Frisbees
*Hunting horns
*Air horns
*Klaxons
*Drums
*Vuvuzelas
*Whistles
*Large flags
*Oversized hats
*Large umbrellas
And the list still goes on.
Interestingly, chips can't also be sold (unless through McDonalds or with fish).

Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedWhat has banning an umbrella got to do with security?(Original post by fudgesundae)
I don't see a problem with any of these items being banned/restricted. Would you rather they were laxer with security and something happens, or they act pretty strictly and nothing happens? -
Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedduh, guns hidden in Umbrellas. Have you never watched any spy shows?(Original post by im so academic)
What has banning an umbrella got to do with security?
I don't see the problem, bring a raincoat with a hood if you're that worried about rain. It may not rain at all, although we are in England. -
Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedI think it is probably to do with stopping people bringing food and drinks to sell to the public. Bringing lunch for you and your family will probably be fine.(Original post by Iqbal007)
Of course they did, that's the point, however as with many Londoners, we also pay the taxes for this top happen, we also bare the brunt of travel disruption and extra traffic and noise.......also have to pay large prices for the tickets....it's only far we get the option to bring the food we want to without having to pay for those food, especially from McDonalds
-
Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedLet's ban clothes then as you can hide guns in clothes.(Original post by fudgesundae)

Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedThe official document actually says "large golf style umbrellas" so normal umbrellas would be allowed.(Original post by im so academic)

Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedfood doesnt include liquid(Original post by TheHansa)
Couldn't possibly afford such a risk, what if the terrorists load up on cola and swallow a mentos when the queen walks by?
I realise that but they haven't defined it properly just wrote excessive(Original post by fudgesundae)

Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedI didn't mean hide a gun, I meant an umbrella gun

In all seriousness, like I said, just bring a raincoat with a hood. -
Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedIt says "yes to sandwiches".(Original post by Iqbal007)
I realise that but they haven't defined it properly just wrote excessive
They are probably relying on people to use their common sense. Bring lunch for yourself (a sandwich, crisps, fruit etc), don't bring a ridiculous amount of food. -
Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedOr, given the weather over this summer, simply look upwards and open their mouths to get a good mouthful(Original post by SirMasterKey)
I can understand the no liquids but really, unless they have an awful lot of drinking fountains, people may be forced to buy drinks to stay hydrated which will be overpriced.

Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedI actually would(Original post by fudgesundae)
It says "yes to sandwiches".

Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedIt's more a case of stopping you bringing in liquid explosives. They will provide free water fountains, just haven't said how many of these they will be.(Original post by funsongfactory)
Profiteering plain and simple. Fine, I accept that only their official sponsors can sell food in the stadium. But banning you from bringing water in just so they can charge you £4 once you're in!? That's disgraceful! -
Re: Banned items from Olympics revealedYou aren't allowed to bring more than 100ml on a plane. I'd assume it's for the same reason as that.(Original post by funsongfactory)

Re: Banned items from Olympics revealed
Any item with a political slogan is too ... my only regret about not taking the G4S job is i shall not be able to confiscate Argentine flags with images of the Falklands on them.
Remember guard staff, 'las malvinas son Argentinas' is a political slogan, no flags, shirts, caps or underpants with this on should be allowed through to the Olympic park ...don't let me down now. -

Just because they say that, I think we all know that isn't really the main reason!(Original post by fudgesundae)
