Who do I see about going on the pill?
Anon please since my sister is currently stalking my profile and I'd rather this not be fed back to my mum!
I want to go on the pill to try and get some kind of regularity with my periods. They are currently irregular in every way possible (timing, pain, flow, duration etc!) and I'm fed up of it. I'm not asking for medical advise about that or whatever since no one could do that over the internet anyway, but just want to know if I have to see a doctor or can it just be a nurse? I looked on the surgery website to see if there was a list of what nurses can do and it just says they are able to prescribe, which is what I want but it doesn't say if they can prescribe the pill or not. This is kind of a long lasting thing but I've never seen anyone about it before.
I'm just asking since the waiting time for a nurse is 2 days and the waiting time for a doctor is currently a month for non-emergency stuff!
Thanks
Oh and sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I was debating whether it sould go in health or sexual health but thought it's not really sexual. Mods, please put it in the right place for me

Re: Who do I see about going on the pill?
Find a local family planning clinic - you should be able to get seen sooner. A lot of places do walk-in clinics for sexual health/contraception. A month is ridiculous! I've never had to wait more than 4 or 5 days to see a doctor at my local GP =/ You will need to see a doctor the first time as far I'm aware, but a nurse can do your follow-up appointments. I have also had to see a doctor whenever I've wanted to change my pill to a different brand. You can always just try calling up your GP surgery and asking them, but I'm pretty sure you'll find it's a no (unless you have a nurse practitioner or consultant nurse, perhaps).
