I read an interesting article the other day. It's not strictly the same topic as your title but worth a read all the same.

Yes they do, this is because on average men would have more iron in their diet, due to eating more meat and vegetarianism being more popular with women.

I know about 4 people with anaemia and they are all female.

Women do have anaemia more commonly - although not really for the above reasons :s

Firstly, women menstruate (in general) - when pathologically heavy/long this can cause anaemia.

Secondly, and more importantly, testosterone increases the levels of haemoglobin in the blood. Thus women have lower haemoglobin levels on average. Although you could argue this doesn't cause anaemia, as women have a lower reference range to account for this - i.e. a haemoglobin level that would be 'anaemia' in a man wouldn't necessarily be so for a women. http://www.gponline.com/News/article...inked-anaemia/

Women can also become anaemic during pregnancy:

There are different types of anaemia, so it would be quite hard to say. Some happen due to loss of loss of iron, or loss of iron binding capacity to RBCs. Some are a result of RBCs being destroyed, such as during extended times of running, the RBCs get trapped and broken down.

It would e fair to say though, that women have more 'common reasons' for anaemia, mainly due to menstruation, pregnancy, inadequate dietary iron etc.

    Hope this helps.

'Anaemia is common in women (of all ages) who have heavy periods. About 1 in 10 women will become anaemic at some point because of this. The amount of iron that you eat may not be enough to replace the iron that you lose during each period. Having heavy periods does not always lead to anaemia. Anaemia is more likely to develop if you have heavy periods and eat a diet that contains little iron.' http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Iron...cy-Anaemia.htm

    I agree with hslt.

Yes, most anaemic people are women as that is most likely due to menstruation.

There's not much more to it tbh

Yeah, but I want to PROVE that women are more common to anaemia.
For e.g there probably are different types of anaemia they're more prone to than men?
Also want to look at causes ofc and effects of anaemia on women etc..
If you know of any website that'll help, please do send it to me
    Thank You.

Yes there are different types. Some involve changes in red blood cells leading to compromised function. These are usually more similar among genders as the cause may be genetic, depending on the disorder.
