Teacher of your mother language when studying in Sheffield
Hello,
I've been told that international students may have the opportunity to teach their language as a part-time job at the University of Sheffield. Sounds dubious to me, since there should be a lot of foreigners and not so many classes.
Does anyone know about it? -
Re: Teacher of your mother language when studying in SheffieldDepends where you are from but I have seen advertisements in the job-shop in the students union for language tutors and the have been quite well paid (e.g £13 per hour) so you shall just have to keep checking the notice board when you come.(Original post by Sanitka)

Hi there! I'm a BA Modern Languages student. In German and Dutch we had language sessions taught by native speakers - in German, they were all Erasmus students opting to teach German and getting paid for it, whereas for Dutch I'm unsure as to whether the main language assistants were teaching as part of their degree in NL/Belgium or simply doing paid work, although I know some of the assistants helping were Erasmus students who did it for free.
I don't know if they offer positions within the MLTC (Modern Languages Teaching Centre) for language tutors, as my only experience has been with those doing language classes included in our core language modules. I think the key factors, however, may be the context under which you are studying/teaching in Sheffield as well as your mother tongue.
That's exclusively for work directly affiliated with UoS, of course; the job shop might advertise independent opportunities to teach your native language. I can assure you, however, that the University does hire some students to teach their language.
