Unsuccessful for ODP at Cardiff - has anyone else had to apply more than once?
I applied for ODP at Cardiff in November last year. I got through the interview stage and made it to the psychometric testing. However, in March I was told that I was unsuccessful in obtaining a place and I can't think about anything else at the moment! I know there are a ridiculous number of applicants applying for limited places, and it was also my first time to apply for it, but I have finally worked out what I want to do in life and had stupidly convinced myself that that would be enough to get me a place.

I will keep applying until I am successful, as it's all I think about, which is quite sad I know. I have no previous background in healthcare, so it's quite difficult to get a job in this sector for experience. I have been in contact with some local hospitals to ask if there are any voluntary positions available but as I work full time, this has also been difficult to arrange.

I was just wondering if anyone else had to apply more than once to get onto their course, and if you have any advice on the best way to gain experience in this area? I spent a day in theatre in January just watching what goes on and it really was the best day ever! It instantly confirmed that this is the career for me.

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Jess

Hey, Jess! I haven't had the same experience as you did (at least not yet, and I hope I will not!), but I'm applying for SLT in 2013 and since this is the only thing and the only place where I want to do it, intend to stick with it, and if necessary, apply again and again, hopefully getting more work experience in the meantime. I think it all depends what you want to do and if you're sure this is where your heart is If yes, go for it, it's worth all the time in the world.
I haven't had much luck trying to get some voluntary work in hospitals either, but will keep trying!

    Good luck

I'm the same as you Jess. I want to do ODP, and nothing else. I'm from the west midlands I will keep trying BCU and Coventry (pref BCU) until I get in. I'm hoping there will be something in clearing. I'm not giving up this year yet. If not I'll try again next year. We will get in 😊
