I've just got the Cooperative Student Account and it's awesome.
    So...
I thought I'd share my experience, because before I did it I was a bit confused/worried about how to apply for an account. I hope other people will share their experiences too, if you think they'll be helpful to other people!

I applied about a week ago (online) for the Coop Student account. I've just got a letter to say it's all been set up. I didn't have to provide any evidence because I assume they've managed to find it from my other bank accounts/electoral register.

I had to ring a number to set up my security details, so I can use online and phone banking. They're sending me a card reader and cheque book right now.
I get my debit card and overdraft (guaranteed £1400 in 1st year) when I deposit £300 into my account. (before I go to uni!)

I found the people on the phone really helpful! they were ready to answer all my questions.
I like this account more than my others (current and savings accounts with Natwest), I find them more friendly and up-front with everything. I hope all goes well when I've started uni (in September). Although I'm going to try to stay away from my overdraft, it's nice to know I've got £1400.

I have the same! Just beware you have to renew your overdraft at the end of the year, if you don't then you'll start getting charged interest and you'll have to pay if you were overdrawn when it expired. Just happened to me. >.<

OH THAT'S why my overdraft randomly disappeared one day. On the phone they didn't know why! I'll try to remember for next year.

My experience is same as the OP's, it's fab. Yay the Co-op.

I'm actually not happy with mine, I'm considering closing it.

I deposited the £300 but didn't get an overdraft, I've been told I need to deposit £300 every month to get one. I've been locked out of internet banking and have rung them 4 times to try and sort it out, each time I'm told they've sorted it but I'm still locked out. I've never needed an overdraft so I'm thinking about closing my Co-Op one and upgrading my current account to a student one.
