Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?
Now the cover of Rolling Stone
Ain't the cover of a Rolling Stone
And the music on my radio
Ain't supposed to make me feel alone
basically he means that the music industry isn't as good as it used to be, 1968 had jimi henrix on the cover of rolling stone , the 2000's had the likes of bieber.
Now they celebrating broken things
I don't want a world of broken things
You can tell that something isn't right
When all your heroes are in black and white
both from speak for my by john mayer,
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth
I have to go, I have to go
Your hair was long when we first met
Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
He ate a slice of wonder bread and went right back to bed
And history books forgot about us and the bible didn't mention us
And the bible didn't mention us, not even once
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came fallin' on our heads
But they're just old light, they're just old light
Your hair was long when we first met
Samson came to my bed
Told me that my hair was red
Told me I was beautiful and came into my bed
Oh I cut his hair myself one night
A pair of dull scissors in the yellow light
And he told me that I'd done alright
And kissed me 'til the mornin' light, the mornin' light
And he kissed me 'til the mornin' light
Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
Ate a slice of wonderbread and went right back to bed
Oh, we couldn't bring the columns down
Yeah we couldn't destroy a single one
And history books forgot about us
And the bible didn't mention us, not even once
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first
Samson - Regina Spektor.
the song is about her friend who died of cancer, and she cut his hair before chemotherapy, the story of samson and delilah is a metaphor for the chemotherapy making her friend weak after his hair was cut. only made it big so you would notice it since my post is long but those lyrics with this meaning are special.
Juliet when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die
Dire Straits / matt nathanson - Romeo and juliet
With your breathing, filling up my lungs
I can almost believe that I'm almost enough
Spent all of my life emptied of anthems
And bracing for something that never did come
Sunshine, I'm beginning to like this
Sunshine, I'm beginning to like it
Cause all I want to be is the minute that you hold me in
When you pretend that I'm all that you waited for
Time slips to nothing and I'm better than I've ever been
I'm suspended
It's not enough to stay surrounded
It's not enough to stay awake, torn, braced, cornered
And not feel alive
suspended - matt nathansonLast edited by kingkongjaffa; 14-07-2012 at 02:01. -
Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?
All the lyrics of Welcome Home - Radical Face. I fricking love this song!
Sleep don't visit, so I choke on sun
And the days blur into one
And the backs of my eyes hum with things I've never done
Sheets are swaying from an old clothesline
Like a row of captured ghosts over old dead grass
Was never much but we made the most
Welcome home
Ships are launching from my chest
Some have names but most do not
If you find one, please let me know what piece I've lost
Peel the scars from off my back
I don't need them anymore
You can throw them out or keep them in your mason jars
I've come home
All my nightmares escaped my head
Bar the door, please don't let them in
You were never supposed to leave
Now my head's splitting at the seams
And I don't know if I can
Here, beneath my lungs, I feel your thumbs press into my skin again -

Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric? If the music's gotten boring
It's because of the people who want everyone to sound the same
Who drive the bright people out of our so-called scene
Till all that's left is a meaningless fad
Chicken**** Conformist - Dead Kennedys
Your mommy told you this
And your daddy told you that
Always think like this
And never do that
You learned so many feelings
But what is there to that
Which are really yours
Or are you just a copycat
Your school told you this
And your church told you that
Memorize this
And don't you dare look at that

Just a tape recorder
Mimicking of the bores

Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?Cause if I ever stuck it to any singer in showbiz(Original post by benpearson1)
For whatever reason..
One of mine would have to be; 'and I fell, right into the arms of Venus De Milo' from Television's Venus, which is one of my favourite songs.
I'll probably add more as and when they come to me.
So what're yours?
it'd be Jennifer Lopez, and Puffy you know this!
I'm sorry Puff, but I don't give a **** if this chick was my own mother
I still **** her with no rubber and cum inside her
and have a son and a new brother at the same time
and just say that it ain't mine, what's my name?

Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?
And yours is to just sustain and chip away with haste
Treasure time and savour taste
From a song called Ornament/The Last Wrongs by a band called Oceansize.
You try to keep your composure
I'm only having a laugh
The latest attempt at closure
Failed after 25 drafts
But I can still retain this
I can still collect
You're cashing in on misery
And calling in all your debts
Also from Oceansize, song is Commemorative 9/11 T-ShirtLast edited by Bezaberry; 14-07-2012 at 16:32. -
Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?Gotta love Springsteen.(Original post by TheBugler)
"I swear I lost everything I ever loved or feared, I was the cosmic kid in full costume dress
Well, my feet they finally took root in the earth but I got me a nice little place in the stars" Growin' Up - Bruce Springsteen
"And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
But tonight we'll be free
All the promises'll be broken" Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen
Although with Growin' up you should of tacked the next line on as well: "And I swear I found the key to the universe in the engine of an old parked car"
For some reason that just sounds pretty awesome to me.
For Thunder Road who could forget the classic:
"Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright"
I've also spent a long while wondering whether the lyrics below are some sort of crude euphemism...
"All the redemption I can offer, girl
Is beneath this dirty hood" -
Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?this line was stuck in my head ALL the way through all my exams! i have no idea why but it was so annoying and if i fail i am definitely blaming this song.(Original post by Miracle Day)
"Hot girls have problems to, we're just like you, except we're hot" -
Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?
You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe [x3]
You a stupid hoe, (yeah) you a, you a stupid hoe
You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe (stupid, stupid)
You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe (you stupid, stupid)
You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe (you stupid, stupid) -
Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?
These are a few of my favourites:
"When evening falls so hard I will comfort you,
I'll take your part when darkness comes,
And pain is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down x2,
Sail on silver girl,
Sail on by,
Your time has come to shine,
All your dreams are on their way,
See how they shine,
If you need a friend,
I'm sailing right behind,
Like a bridge over troubled waters I will ease your mind x2" - Simon and Garfunkel
"Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road,
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go,
So make the best of this test and dont ask why,
Its not a question but a lesson learnt in time,
Its something unpredictable but in the end its right,
I hope you had the time of your life" - Time of your life by Green Day
"Every time I look in the mirror,
All these lines on my face gettin clearer,
The past is gone,
It went by like dusk to dawn,
Isn't that the way,
Everybodys got their dues in life to pay,
I know nobody knows,
Yeah where it comes or where it goes,
I know it's everybodys sin, you gotta lose to know how to win." - Dream on by Aerosmith
"Nothin ever grows in this rotten old hole and everything is stunted and lost,
And nothing really rocks
And nothing really rolls
And nothings ever worth the cost
And I know that im damned if I never get out
And maybe im damned if I do
But with every beat I've got left in my heart
You know I'd rather be damned with you
If I've gotta be damned you know I wanna be damned
Dancing through the night with you" - Bat out of hell by Meatloaf.
"Do you realise? - that you have the most beautiful face
Do you realise? - we're floating in space
Do you realise? - that happiness makes you cry
Do you realise? - that everyone you know someday will die
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes,
Let them know you realise that life goes fast,
It's hard to make the good things last,
You realise the sun don't go down,
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round." - Do you realise? By The Flaming Lips
"You hung me like a picture
Now I'm just a frame
I used to be your lapdog
Now I'm just a stray
Shackled in the graveyard
Left here to decay...-
Go on crush me like a flower,
Rusted from the rain,
Come on strip me of my power,
Beat me with your chains
And if im the king of cowards
You're the queen of pain
I'm rusted from the rain" - Rusted from the Rain by Billy Talent
"Dig if you will the picture
Of you and I engaged in a kiss
The sweat of your body covers me my darling
Can you my darling
Can you picture this
Dream if you can a courtyard
Ocean of violets in bloom
Animals strike curious poses
They feel the heat
The heat between me and you
How could you just leave me standin'
Alone in a world so cold
Maybe I'm just too demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father - too bold
Maybe you're just like my mother
She's never satisfied
Why do we scream at each other?
This is what it sounds like when doves cry" When Doves Cry by Prince
"I can't believe how you looked at me
with your james dean glossy eyes
with your tight jeans
with your long hair
and your cigarette stained lies" Speechless by Lady Gaga
"Tell me something that'll save me
I need a man that makes me alright
Tell me something that'll change me
I'm gonna love you with my hands tied
Show me your teeth" Teeth by Lady Gaga
"Cause if it wasn't for all that you tried to do
I wouldn't know just how capable I am to pull through
So I wanna say thank you
Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
Makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter" Fighter by Christina Aguilera
"This is my vietnam
I'm at war
Life keeps on dropping bombs
And I keep score" My Vietnam by P!nk
"What if I'm fallin' for a heartbreaker?
And everything is just a lie
I won't be leaving here alive" Heartbreaker by P!nk
"And there's nothin' wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In the land of make believe
That don't believe in me
...
To live and not to breathe
Is to die in tragedy
To run, to run away
To find what to believe
and i leave behind
this hurricane of f'ing lies
i lost my faith to this
this town that dont exist" Jesus of Suburbia - Green Day
"I tried to be perfect but nothing was worth it,
I don't believe it makes me real" - Pieces by Sum 41
"See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you
Slight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you
With or without you
With or without you
Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more" With or Without You by U2
"Swimming through the void
We hear the word
We lose ourselves
But we find it all
Cause we are the ones that wanna play
Always wanna know
But you never wanna stay
We are the ones that wanna choose
Always want to play but you never want to lose" Aerials by System of a Down -
Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?
Avicii - Levels
Ooooh some times I get good feeling , yeah
I get a feelin that I never knew I had before no no
I get good feelin yeah
X repeat
lol but seriously
Tupac - Keep ya head up
[SIZE=1]And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up
<--- One that always sticks with me -
Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?
And I am nothing of a builder
But here I dreamt I was an architect
And I built this balustrade
To keep you home, to keep you safe
From the outside world
But the angles and the corners
Even though my work is unparalelled
They never seemed to meet
This structure fell about our feet
And we were free to go
------------------------------------------------
And I say your uncle was a crooked French Canadian
And he was gut-shot running gin
And how his guts were all suspended in his fingers
And how he held 'em, how he held 'em, held 'em in
...
And we'll remember this when we are old and ancient
Though the specifics might be vague
And I'll say, "Your camisole was a sprightly light magenta"
When, in fact, it was a nappy bluish grey
-------------------------------------------------
And I am a writer, writer of fictions
I am the heart that you call home
And I've written pages upon pages
Trying to rid you from my bones
My bones
My bones
I'm a money lender
I have fortunes upon fortunes
Take my hand for tender
I am tortured, ever tortured
Various lyrics from The Decemberists. It's so hard choosing just a few.

Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?
Yesterday when you were young, everything you needed done was done for you
Now you do it on your own but you find you're all alone what can you do
You know there will be days when you're so tired that you can't take another step
The night will have no stars and you'll think you've gone as far as you will ever get
But you and me walk on, walk on, walk on
Cause you can't go back now
I can't really say why everybody wishes they were somewhere else
But in the end the only steps that matter are the ones you take all by yourself
The Weepies - Can't Go Back Now -
Re: What's your favourite ever song lyric?
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow
Mr. Tambourine Man - Bob Dylan. The best lyricist of all time.
So we go inside and we gravely read the stones
All those people all those lives
Where are they now?
With the loves and hates
And passions just like mine
They were born
And then they lived and then they died
Seems so unfair
And I want to cry
The Smiths - Cemetery Gates
