Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobsThey started you on the job that quick? Where?(Original post by Stevo F)
Been applying for the last 3 weeks, all of a sudden yesterday I got a call to say I had an interview later that day, 2 hours after the interview I was working for them.
Until then I thought I was in the same position as you, hadn't heard anything back from anyone I'd applied to (and I still haven't other than that 1) -
Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobsRather blunt reply to someone trying to help you. I did this in lots of places, if you can't manage to hand in a CV in a big store then you're doing something wrong. Sure some will decline it, but far from all.(Original post by . . .)
I have. The reply I get is apply online.
Edit: Are people genuinely implying you can't hand a CV in to large chain stores? Unreal...Last edited by M1011; 20-03-2013 at 20:14. -
Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobs
It's even more annoying when you go into the store that rejected you, and see that they have truly miserable people working there who are actually clueless - from my experience anyway. I'm pretty sure some places are discriminating against people. I applied for a job and got rejected, was fine until I realised some other girl I knew got it. I have done voluntary work, have above average grades and have years and years of extra curricular activities. This girl didn't even turn up for school. I really don't know.

I'm in the same boat, and yeah, job hunting is a curiously depressing experience. But then, so is having a job. There's a Wildean aphorism in there.

Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobs
I've been in this situation since summer 2009 (when I finished year 11) and I have not had ONE successful interview or job. I've either got rejected via e-mail or by interview. Recently I had an interview for a Saturday job to tide me over until university restarts, and it said on the job centre website it was a temp job for 13 weeks. However, get down there and the interview starts, and the first thing I'm asked is a bit about myself. As soon as I said 'University Student' the interview was terminated as I was then informed by the interviewer that it was a permanent role. I wasn't impressed as it had wasted my time and I felt like myself and everybody else applying for that position had been lied to.

Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobsThis is very true. Sometime I wish I could just quit my job, since I'd rather be bored than go to work.(Original post by geetar)

It's largely about luck. When I got the interview which lead to my job, my online application was riddled with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. -
Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobsHaha, yeah! At least when you have a job you can earn enough money to see a shrink because you hate your job(Original post by . . .)
Difference being whilst having a job you get paid whilst simultaneously being depressed.

Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobs
I'm in the same situation. Since end of May I've applied to every job in my small town I have found on the internet and newspapers. I've handing out my CV like flyers to every shop. Put ad into newspaper. Everything I got was 1 interview after which I got rejected and 1 strange chat with boss of restaurant nearby (he only called me up probably only because I opted to work for free for a week since I had no waiter experience). Really annoying that I have so much cleaning experience, volunteering in a charity shop, other extra-curricular school stuff and very good grades. I've been a cleaner in a nearby Boots store and I've apllied for the same postition in a nearby town and didn't get it. Seriously, what else were they looking for???
But yes, the most annoying is that employers turn down hard working and responsible people for those who don't give a crap about their work.

Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobs
Have you been applying for jobs that actually have vacancies? I.E Tesco/Asda etc, if there are no vacancies then obviously they just will ignore you until they are recruiting..
And sometimes companies will just keep your C.V on file for a later vacancy as you may not be the right man/woman at that particular time. E.G, I had an interview at the Royal Bank of Scotland back in October last year, they rejected me, then randomly contacted me in February and offered me a position..
Just keep going and you'll get somewhere! -
Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobs
Have you tried temp agencies? I signed up with one last week and was offered a job within a day. Obviously it was only temporary, 5 days, but it's something! Hopefully they'll contact me with a lot more because like you i'm really struggling to find anything else.

Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobshi are you going to be going to uni soon? employers dont like employing people who are going to be leaving in a few months time and will students who only want work during term time that there arent any jobs avaliable because the dont want to have to train you only for you to leave in a few months . what you want do is pretend that you are going to be their permanatley if you are planing to go to uni and if you have to say you are going to uni tell em that you will be wanting to work weekends there once you start uni. If you aint going to uni then parhaps you need to big up ya cv a bit more a few white lies wont hurt anybody good luck(Original post by . . .)
I do and have been doing the travelling costs of it is one of the major reasons my savings have depleted. In fact I'm going to have to stop as I can't afford to travel. -
Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobsDon't be so naive.(Original post by . . .)
Why don't you at least then the job can be given to somebody that would be grateful. -
Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobsLol, PERFECTLY summarized. It's a shame that it is true though, because any top A-Level student say who applied for engineering, medicine, computer science etc will perform well enough to easily outweigh the measly training costs.(Original post by Architecture-er)
Companies discriminate against students that are looking like they'll be going to university, anyway. They just don't see the benefit in training someone who's going to leave in 4/5 months.
Stupid really, but they'd vastly prefer Retard Jim who was born from an incestual relationship and then was dropped on his head, just because they know he's not using them as a stepping stone.
I definitely know which one I would rather employ.
Agree with OP, ****ing scum companies, all filled with deadbeat employees who don't serve you ****.
/minirant. Feel much better.

I am in the same position as you. I applied at H&M, NEXT, subway and primark. None of them had common decency to at least tell me I got rejected. The problem is if I at least that I got rejected I would be motivated to apply some were else but those ****ers don't even get back with any response.
Nevertheless I am still trying and if don't have job by the time I go uni I am have to resort to applying at Agency to aid me find a job

Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobsbeefeater, they classed it as training but effectively...(Original post by . . .)

Re: I'm sick and tired of looking for ****ing jobs
I applied to 5 jobs in one day and got all 5. Have you been going into places and handing in your cv? That's what I did and before when I just called up places or applied online I never got anything. Always write a cover letter too, and write a different one for each place your applying. Research the place your applying to so you sound knowledgeable and dedicated!
