Hello all.

I applied for a 20 hour/week vacancy for Retail Operative position at my local store on 28/06/2012 (just an hour after the vacancy was made live on their Twitter page), and haven't heard a peep since, not even an interview offer or a rejection. It's just over 2 weeks and I'm getting worried. The closing date was 5/07/2012.

I really need this job as I will not be going to uni next year and need to work. I'm really lucky that there were vacancies available there as their staff turnover isn't very high. The only retail experience I have is two weeks work experience from Year 10 when I was a general assistant at Poundstretcher's.

So, from any of your experiences, have you seen this happen?

Did you get an email confirming they recieved your application?

Yep, I've received E-mail confirmations for all vacancies I had applied for so no problems there. I'm just a little worried because I've read on here how some have had interview offers in a matter of hours after applying and I though perhaps something went wrong.

Maybe they've rejected you but their policy is not to waste time hitting the button which sends the stock rejection email. Perhaps there is no stock rejection email to send.

Good luck I hope you hear something back. Maybe you should start applying elsewhere though just incase nothing comes of this job.

Thanks sarahlousie. I've tried applying but it's just been a string of rejections from so many supermarkets, it's a real blow to one's self esteem.

This Primark is my biggest hope - I'm so familiar with it, been shopping there since time immemorial, and it would be ideal to get that job.

Well I will keep your fingers crossed. jobhunting is horrible, I've done plenty of it myself and I don't know what is worse, not hearing back at all or getting rejections.

Double check the confirmation email from Primark because on my one it said if I didn't receive a response, I should assume I got rejected. I got offered an interview on the 13th day.

Also check your junk mail it might have been forwarded there.

Hey.

I've checked the e-mail it didn't say anything about assuming rejection if I didn't get a reply. They just said they would review my application and get back to me shortly (seems their definition of shortly is warped), and were advertising their twitter page to look for new vacancies. No indication of anything.

My junk is totally clean, no emails from them.

Seriously? That's ridiculous! Regardless of the high volume of applicants they have, if they say they're going to get back to you, they should.

How long did they take to reply after you sent your application?

They replied a couple of hours later and called me into an interview for the next day.

I had the interview, and they said they were going to call me in the next couple of days.

When they didn't call, I phoned them and the lady on the other end said "We email you whether or not you were successful.", but there was no e-mail from them.

That's pretty apathetic of them, seeing as people are desperate for jobs nowadays, what with the recession and all. The least they could do is send you a rejection so you can look for other work.

And that's an incredibly quick reply, was it for a new opening store or an existing one?

Yeah, I know! Luckily I managed to get another job (even if it was 8 months later!)

It was an existing one but they were doing work to it to make it a bigger store.

You should probably call and ask about the progress of your application, because they've been keeping you waiting a long time!

In my experience Primark don't bother telling you if you're not successful, many places don't I'm afraid. Best of luck with the job hunt though, if nothing else appears it might be worth looking to apprenticeships.
