    Running!
Hey guys! I am just gunna come clean here, I can't run. I can just about do the 400m without stopping. Embarrassing right ? Basically, I have my black belt in November which, handily, includes a 2 mile run where you CAN'T stop. I would like to start running in the mornings, not just for black belt but I am really pushing myself over summer to tone up muscle wise and I do enjoy the freedom of exercise. Any tips for running would be useful, thanks in advance. ( when to go, eating before? What to eat as part of exercise diet, how far to run ect)

Ahh I know how you feel! I'm a terrible runner and was forced to do the 1500m for sports day which, of course, went terribly This may have been due to me not running/exercising for about a year though ..
Anywaaay, in my opinion eating before isn't the best idea because it may cause you to become sick afterwards. Also, you could try running 500m the first time you do it and gradually increase your distance, say 200m more every week? You'll be able to do 2 miles in no time!

How fast do you have to run? If you have no time you have to make it in then 2 miles is easy and you really don't have to do anything specific except eat healthily, and do the 2 miles every morning.

This is a very popular running plan OP.

    http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Page...o-5k-plan.aspx

And there is a really good thread on here with lots of people who are following it. 5k- I think- is just over 3 miles so that would be a good way to get you above the 2 miles you need.

EDIT- Forgot to say that they have podasts you can listen to that tell you when to start/ stop running etc.

Gradually build your distances you say you cant run 400 yet ? Lets say your maximum is 300m. Go out in the morning and run 300m then later on during the day 7,8 whatever run the 300m again. Next morning increase your run by 50m to 350m morning and night again. Once you do that you should feel an increase in your lung capacity and then you can increase your runs by 100metres. Last year I was in the same position I had 3 months to prepare for a 5 mile run and I wasnt a long distance runner at all on the contrary I was more of a sprinter so I was used to running 100 metres. Anyway by gradually doing this day and night you can run for longer, and a word of advice once you start running about 600 or 800 only run once a day AND start bringing a friend along (with them riding on a bike or something whilst you run) conversation definately helps you from realising your tired but also takes away some of your air so your making your lungs work even harder. And whole grain cereal before each run because it releases energy slowly as do bannanas.

    Good luck

Well, that's the thing, it's a mile down hill carrying a big stick, you know the karate ones, at the bottom we perform a set of moves that we have to do correctly then back up the hill. So basically we have to be pretty much the same speed so we ain't late for the performance at the bottom

Eh, you'll be fine. Two miles really isn't very much and you have bigger problems than your grading if you can't even run 400m.
