HATE maths, taking it at a level HELP
So basically, in the future I hope to become a doctor, so have decided to take the following subjects at a level:
maths
Biology
Psychology
Chemistry
I like all the subjects apart from maths. At GCSE I got an A, but I am not very enthusiastic about the subject but can work hard if required. Should I take it or not, do medical schools like maths, or should I take something else. If I do choose another subject, what should I choose???? -
Re: HATE maths, taking it at a level HELP
Don't take it if you don't like it, it will not be worth the pain. It is not a requirement for medicine..
Have you thought about physics? Very maths related I know, but fundamentally different.
I was in your position when I started A levels, I HATED biology at GCSE but took it anyway at A level, got A* at GCSE, then a C at AS and had to drop it. Ruined my university application. Universities, I feel, would rather see you with an A in a non maths subject than a C or below in maths. -
Re: HATE maths, taking it at a level HELP
I think I'm going to change my mind..... after hearing from the forum and family + friends people have said similar things. Problem is, is that I have never ever liked Physics, English is a possibility, as I am good at language. Doesn't history require lots of revision material? I was thinking of business studies, I really like it, or maybe economics??? Sooo many choices. Thanks for the advice so far guys!!!

Re: HATE maths, taking it at a level HELPHe got an A, not an A* He may not be good at maths and may regret it later in life. I know a lot of people who get A* in maths but flop A levels. There is no point in encouraging him to do maths if he doesn't like it. He might as well take a different subject that he finds easier.(Original post by simibean)
I will be taking the same a levels as you expect that I will be doing geography instead of Psychology.
You are good at maths, which is good. But if you are not interested in the subject that may affect your grade. -
When did he encourage him? He said that it would affect his grade. That to me is an attempt at stopping him, isn't it?(Original post by JamalAhmed)

Re: HATE maths, taking it at a level HELP
I agree with everyone else, don't take something that you won't enjoy. I know this is a different situation but I've just finished a science foundation year and was supposed to be going on to Pharmaceutical Sciences but realised very early on that I HATE chemistry so have switched now to Psychology as I know I'll enjoy it far more and have a greater chance of getting a first.
Also, I would say to take English Language, probably best not to do Physics since it is still pretty heavy maths content.Last edited by MissDavies; 15-07-2012 at 14:47. -
Re: HATE maths, taking it at a level HELPHardly. If anything he discouraged him by saying that "If you are not interested in the subject that may affect your grade."(Original post by JamalAhmed)
He did encourage him a little by saying "You are good at maths, which is good". -
Re: HATE maths, taking it at a level HELPI feel like I will be arguing on this topic forever but...(Original post by glelin96)
Hardly. If anything he discouraged him by saying that "If you are not interested in the subject that may affect your grade."
going on, he said "you are good at maths, which is good" giving the impression that he is good enough to do maths A levels which is indirectly encouraging him.
Now you reply... -
Re: HATE maths, taking it at a level HELPNo, he said "you are good at maths, which is good" this could have ABSOLUTELY no relevance to the question at all. Is being good at maths not a good thing? Thought so. He then went OT and said that his lack of interest in the subject would affect his grade DIRECTLY discouraging him from taking it. If you wish to comment on arguing please feel free, you WILL lose.(Original post by JamalAhmed)

Re: HATE maths, taking it at a level HELPWhen he said which is good, I believe he meant good for maths A-levels but obviously he is not - he got an A(Original post by glelin96)
